SIUSLAW NEWS | WEDNESDAY, SEPTEMBER 8, 2021 | 3A Community News Cover selected for next Central Coast Connection Local artist Dennis Kel- ley’s painting “Marina Maid” has been selected to grace the cover of the 31st edition of Central Coast Connec- tion Business Directory and Phone Book, according to the Florence Regional Arts Alliance (FRAA) and the lo- cal publication. Kelley’s painting of the Florence marina was se- lected from 32 entries by 15 artists. Artists submit- ted their artwork to FRAA, which then provided all the entries anonymously to Pacific Publishing, whose staff members selected the winner based on multiple criteria. Kelley received $500 for his winning submission. “We were thrilled with the number and quality of entries,’’ said Jon Thomp- son, Central Coast Con- nection publisher. “We are always amazed at the level of talent in our community. He added that they considered a half doz- en entries in the final selec- tion that would have been outstanding choices for the cover. FRAA President Kristin Anderson stated, “We are so grateful that Pacific Pub- lishing uses art depicting local scenes for its cover, and we are very proud that FRAA can be a part of that process.” Kelley has been paint- ing his entire life, inspired early in childhood by his grandmother’s encourage- ment. From acrylics and oils on canvas, to murals and sculptures, he enjoys creat- ing art in many styles and mediums. Inspired by the Old Masters, he has created many still life paintings, rep- licas of classic artwork and numerous abstract works. He often incorporates the beauty of the natural world into his paintings. Welcome Baby Bundles are offered to and deliv- ered to expectant families in West Lane communities. Each bundle comes stocked with baby essentials includ- ing safe sleep support, nurs- ery and medical care, baby clothes, books, toys, hand- made tummy time playmat and hat. A portable crib or low-to-the-ground bassinet is included for families if needed. In addition, a resource binder is provided to each LCC Florence Center reopens Lane Community College (LCC) Florence Center, 3149 Oak St., is now open to the public, with on-site classes planned for fall term.
