Haz- ardous waste from busi- nesses, schools, churches, government agencies or non-profits must pre-reg- ister and are subject to dis- posal fees. The event takes place Fri- day, Aug. 20, from noon to 5 p.m. and Saturday, Aug. 21, from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Florence Transfer Sta- tion, 2820 N. Rhododen- dron Dr. All community members are welcome to participate in the roundup. People can bring: Up to 35 gallons of paint, house- hold cleaners, lawn and garden chemicals, car care products, arts and crafts products, pool chemicals, fluorescent lamps and oth- er household hazardous waste. Check labels for words like flammable, cor- rosive, poison, caution and danger. Please do not bring emp- ty containers, drums, ra- dioactive waste, asbestos or explosives. Any empty containers can be safely thrown in the trash. For in- formation about disposal of radioactive waste, asbestos or explosives, call 541-682- 3828. Businesses that generate small amounts of hazard- ous waste may pre-register to bring that waste to this event. Businesses must pay for disposal of the waste, but most can save money by using this program. The Glenwood, Cottage Grove, Creswell, Florence, Marcola, Oakridge, Rat- tlesnake, Veneta and Vida transfer stations recycle the following electronic items for free during normal op- erating hours (maximum of seven items at a time): televisions, computer mon- itors, CPUs and laptops.
