National Night Out returns this August On Aug. 3, the Florence Police Department is host- ing its third annual National Night Out event at Miller Park from 6 to 9 p.m. The National Night Out is a community-police event in the United States celebrat- ed by over 16,000 commu- nities for the last 35 years. NNO is meant to increase awareness about police pro- grams in communities, such as drug prevention, town watch, neighborhood watch and other anti-crime efforts. The Florence Police De- partment will be providing hot dogs and hamburgers, chips, cotton candy, pop- corn, and soft drinks at no cost to the public. In addition, there will be a variety of games and ac- tivities, with visits by police officers, public works, other city staff, firefighters, the U.S. Coast Guard and para- medics. Local youth will also be able to get their face painted, have a balloon ani- mal made and interact with local first responders. This year will feature a live DJ, so people can bring a chair or blanket to sit on and be ready to dance! We request that you don’t bring your pets to the park. Re- member, this is a family friendly event, no alcohol or smoking is allowed. Every person in the de- partment is confident that we can make this commu- nity event another success and bring our neighbors together with the men and women who protect them.
