OBITUARY
POST—Alice
Ainger
Post, 97, passed away April
22, 2021 in Florence, Ore.,
where she and her late
husband, Clifford R. Post,
lived for the past 30 years.
Alice was born Nov. 2,
1923 in Williams, Calif., a
farming community in the
Sacramento Valley.
She was the youngest
child of Ray Ainger and
Meda Gibson Ainger Ben-
ning.
Alice was pre-deceased
by her siblings: Harold
Ainger, Ruby Anderson,
Ivan Ainger and Ira Ainger,
all of California.
She had no children but
enjoyed the love of sev-
eral family members and
friends who have kept in
close touch with her.
Alice also leaves Charlie,
a female cat she took in as a
stray, and who has been her
constant beloved compan-
ion these past years while
living at an assisted living
facility.
Alice was a very talent-
ed professional porcelain
painter and instructor. Her
family and friends have
been the recipients of many
beautiful art pieces. These
past few years, she became
proficient at water color-
ing and enjoyed gardening
from her wheelchair. Her
sharp mind made her a for-
midable adversary at cards
and there wasn’t a puzzle
she couldn’t conquer.
The family is very appre-
ciative of the excellent lov-
ing care she received from
the staff at New Friends in
Florence, Oregon. As per

ed city

The Lane County Plan-
ning Commission is a
nine-member
advisory
board that makes recom-
mendations to the Board
of County Commissioners
regarding land use, com-
prehensive plan issues and
amendments, as well as oth-
er regional planning issues.
The group generally
meets twice per month in
the evenings.

Possible contaminants found in wastewater stream
Over the past couple of
days, Florence Wastewater
Treatment Plant Operators
have discovered possible
contaminants in the waste-
water stream. The biolog-
ical process of wastewater
treatment has changed and
is not performing as ex-
pected. This has caused the
possibility of not meeting
our DEQ National Pollutant
Discharge Elimination Sys-
tem (NPDES) permit and
may result in higher levels
of enterococcus bacteria be-
ing discharged into the Siu-
slaw River than as stated in
our NPDES permit.
The wastewater treat-
ment staff is working hard
to restore the biological bal-
ance in order for the plant
can quickly return to nor-
mal operations. Staff have
contacted an outside lab-
oratory to process special
samples in our investigative
process to help determine
the chemical contaminate
or level of toxicity of an un-
known agent that is causing
the plant upset.
Whatever the chemical
or other contaminate is, it is
not hampering the facility’s
ability to deactivate fecal
coliforms, but it is creating
a situation where it is in-
terfering with the ability to
accurately test for entero-
coccus bacteria.
Out of an abundance of
caution, City staff have tak-
en water quality samples in
the affected area, upstream
on the Siuslaw River and
downstream on the Siuslaw
River. Notices have been
posted to advise the public
of the potential hazards and
to avoid contact with the
water. The public is highly
advised to thoroughly cook
any shellfish harvested in
the immediate vicinity of
the Florence Wastewater
Treatment Plant and to take
universal precautions by
washing hands with soap
and clean water.
