Out of the nine teams that competed, Siuslaw’s boys team came in sec- ond place overall with 133 points, and the girls came in fourth with 70 points. Both teams are on track to have ath- letes compete in this weekend’s district finals, as well as next week’s state finals. On the boys’ side, the field events went quite well. “The pole vaulters had a great day, Camp Lacouture and Kyle Hughes specifically. While the team continues to improve at the plate and on defense, they were unable to de- feat the Pirates, losing both games 14-5 and 12-2. In game one, the Lady Viks started at the plate aggressively and, after two quick outs, Bailey Overton hit a double to get things go- ing. Liz Garcia-Galvan was then hit by a pitch (HBP) to advance to first base, bringing Kya Blake up to bat. Blake hit a single but made it to second after an error by the Pirates, picking up an RBI along the way by sending Overton home to score. Marshfield then struck out the Vikings’ final batter, Brynlee Manues, ending their at-bat 1-0. The Pirates set out to take control offen- sively straightaway and, after having their first batter walked, hit two doubles for RBIs. The next batter was tagged out at first by Blake from on an assist by Overton at short stop — but not before landing another RBI for the Pirates. So, that's sort of on our radar Siuslaw swept by Pirates By Zeahna Young Siuslaw News On Friday (May 7), Siuslaw’s baseball team faced off against the Marshfield Pirates away for a doubleheader. Both games were very close, but the Pirates were able to come out ahead in each match, with the final scores at 4-9 and 5-7 in favor of Marshfield. Many of the lakes have been stocked twice now and several others received stock- ings in mid-March. Here is a list of the lakes that have been stocked so far this year: Thissel Pond, Cleawox, Munsel, Mercer, Alder, Dune, Buck, Lost, Carter, Devils, Woahink, Elbow, Siltcoos, Eckman, and Big Creek Reservoirs #1 and #2. All of these lakes are scheduled to receive more trout stockings in April as well. SIUSLAW RIVER: Winter steelhead Winter steelhead fishing continues to be slow on the Siuslaw and is slowing down for the season which closed March 31. Trout fishing in streams opens on May 22. Hatchery fish are also planted in Lake Creek and are released into Green Creek. These returning hatchery fish will start to show up in December and peak in January and February. Lake Creek closed to all fishing March 31 and will open on May 22 for trout fishing. Winter steelhead fishing continues to be slow on the Alsea. The recent rain improved the conditions and the fishing picked up a bit. Overall, it continues to be slow and the run is winding down for the year. Town was quite busy and I think that’s the way it will continue into a very busy summer. On a real estate note, we had 18 new listings. 13 were residential and 5 were lots.
