PREISLER —Judit h “Judy” Lynne Preisler, 78, passed away April 25, 2021, after a sudden and brief illness. Judy was born Jan. 24, 1943, in Queens, NY, to parents Stanley and Edna Muir. She graduated from Hofstra University and became a highly respect- ed and devoted teacher of both English and history and mentor to a number of her collegues — her profession and passion her entire life. Judy married Ron Pre- isler in Carle Place, NY, on June 24, 1966. They 4-Family Remodeling Sale Fri.-Sat. 5/7-5/8 9am-3pm 4866 Cloudcroft Rd. Antiques, quality furniture, pictures, carpet, lighthouse c ollection, plants, craft, household, clothing. shared over 54 years to- gether living on Long Island for a dozen years and then spending near- ly 30 years in California, where Judy was the Head of Viewpoint Middle School, overseeing the middle school with 300 students while also teach- ing classes. Upon retirement, Judy and Ron moved to Flor- ence to be closer to their daughter, Jen, and her family. Judy quickly be- came involved in the community. She managed the volunteer program for the Memory Care Respite Center and worked with the clients in a warm and loving way. Judy was a volunteer and secretary for the Florence Cold Weather Shelter since its incep- tion. She and Ron also enjoyed many marvelous travel adventures to Eu- rope, Canada and the Ca- ribbean. Judy is survived by her beloved husband of 54 years, Ron; her sister, Su- zie; daughters Jennifer, Victoria (and son-in law Ben Hayes) of Portland, Ore.; her two grandsons: Jack and Lukas; and her quirky fur baby, Lily. Not only was Judy a passionate educator and volunteer, her prime passion was her family. She loved being a grand- mother and considered being “Nana” her best job ever — a job at which she was great. During the long period of the COVID pandemic closures, Judy combined the roles of educator and Nana to teach special weekly lessons via Zoom to her grandsons — whom she adored — on topics ranging from the telegraph to Muhammad Ali. Judy beamed when she spoke of family. Besides her family, Judy loved flowers and holi- days, especially Christ- mas and Thanksgiving; she loved welcoming family and friends to her home. In the true giving spir- it of the holidays, Judy always made room for one or two more at the Thanksgiving table. Judy’s strengths and passion for family, friends, and community were evident to anyone who knew her, as was her WEDNESDAY THURSDAY hard work ethic and her wonderful smile. She was the glue for her family and Judy will live forever in their hearts. A service in memory of Judy will be held at a later date. In remembrance of Judy, read a book to a child or make room for just one or two more at your table. Donations in Judy’s memory can be made to Florence Cold Weather Shelter. PENGRA—On March 3, 2021, we sadly said good- bye to our dearly loved mother, Rene Pengra. In this time of profound sadness over the loss of a woman who de- voted her life to us, we her f a m i l y, Rene celebrate Pengra her. O u r mother, Leona Lurrene “Rene” Wood was born Sept. 14, 1932, to Arthur John and Dorthy Melvina Wood in Seattle, Wash. In 1936, after losing her father in a tragic logging accident, Dorthy mar- ried Lloyd Charbonneau, blessing Mom with a lov- ing father. She graduated from Mission High School in San Francisco in 1950. In 1953, she received her registered nursing degree from St. Francis Memorial Hospital, San Francisco. In 1954, Mom married Jean Clare “Skip” Waihoja, whose Marine Corp ca- reer expanded her nursing opportunities to Kodiak, Alaska and Twentynine Palms, Calif. After their divorce, she relocated to Springfield, Ore., in 1965 and began working at Sacred Heart Hospital in Eugene, Ore. In 1967, she married Vern Hendricksen who passed away in 1981. In 1970, she was honored to be a member of the “first open heart team” at Sacred Heart Hospital. She went to work at Western Lane Hospital, Florence, Ore., in 1982, ending a 42-year ca- reer — the majority spent as a surgical RN when she retired from Peace Harbor Hospital in 1997. After being widowed for 24 years, she found the “love of her life” when she married Byron Hill Pengra in 2005. Sadly, he passed away in 2009. Our Mom was a member of several bowling leagues, Ocean Dunes Women’s Golf Association and an avid Oregon Duck fan. She enjoyed many family activ- ities throughout her life, including poker (“As long as it was five card stud”), keno, pull taps, digging clams, RV camping and every Rhododendron Fes- tival. She was also very for- tunate to travel the world with one of her best friends, Ulva Fyfe. At age 85, she was still participating in exercise classes and singing in the Florence community choir. Mom left many memo- ries in each of our hearts and everyone who loved her was enriched by her life. She is survived by her sisters: Diane Cordell (hus- band Wayne) and Darlene Walton (husband Bill); her cousins: Dale Radcliff and wife Mary Lou, and Rick Radcliff and wife Cin- da; her daughters: Cathy Lake (husband Armand) and Susie Foster (hus- band Dave(; grandchil- dren: Lincoln Foster and wife Aletha, Ryann Foster, Nick Lake and Andy Lake; great-grandchildren: Brit- tney Lake, Isabella Lake, Colton Foster and Flynn Foster. Mom is also survived by Byron’s children: Sue Scar- berry, Joyce Rines, Teresa Anderson, Bob Pengra and their families, in addi- tion to other special family members and friends. Mom’s life will be cele- brated at 11 a.m. on Sat- urday, May 22, at St. Mary Catholic Church, Our Lady of the Dunes, 85060 S. Highway 101, in Flor- ence, Ore., 97439. Our family would like to thank each of you for your love and support. God Bless You! In lieu of flowers please consider contributions in our Mother’s name to Friends of Florence, “friendsofflorence.net” or P.O. Box 598, Florence, Or- egon 97439.
