Community invited to provide feedback, ideas on proposed rec, community center
The RiverView Coast
Project is developing a Re-
gional Community & Rec-
reation Center in Historic
Old Town Florence.
People can learn more at
www.RiverViewCoast.org.
Organizers Kurt Vander
Bogart and Graham Ross
are seeking public input,
through an online survey,
to help better understand
what facilities and services
the community would like
to see in a recreation and
community center.
“We’d really like the com-
munity to have as much
input as possible, and we
are going to take the time
to give everyone a chance
to share their ideas,” said
Vander Bogart.
The RiverView Coast
Project is in its “brain-
storming phase.” The orga-
nizers particularly want as
much feedback as possible
across the community.
One of the questions the
survey asks is, “What kinds
of facilities and activities
are missing in our commu-
nity that your family would
enjoy?”

line survey is www.riv-

Sign up have begun for CROW’s 2021 Summer Camps
Now is the time for fam-
ilies to sign up their kids
for CROW’s (Children’s
Repertory of Oregon
Workshops) exciting 2021
Summer Camp sessions.
CROW’s first one-week
camp is entitled “Game-
A-Palooza” and will take
place July 12 to 16 from
10 a.m. to 2 p.m. This
will be a camp for ages 7
to 10. The second one-
week camp is also called
“Game-A-Palooza” and
will take place July 19 to
23 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
This camp is for ages 11+.
Both sessions will be
taught by CROW Artistic
Director Melanie Heard,
and the cost is $125, which
includes a T-shirt.
According to Heard,
“We are focusing on
F-U-N! Through a com-
bination of socially dis-
tanced improv and tradi-
tional-style camp games,
hands-on crafts, and mini
discussions on the excit-
ing world of theatre arts,
students will be immersed
in a plethora of creativity
and laughter.”
Also offered is CROW’s
Invitation or Audition
Only- Advanced Act-
ing Program, which will
be Aug. 2 to 13. The cost
for this two-week camp
is $250, and includes a
T-shirt.
“This year’s Advanced
Acting program will fo-
cus on the historical and
cultural significance of
traveling
performers:
troubadours, minstrels,
carnivals, circuses, street
artists and more,” Heard
said. “During camp, stu-
dents will work to create
an outdoor show that will
be performed at various
safe locations in Florence
for small, socially dis-
tanced audiences. Char-
acter development, comic
timing, physicality and
other vital performance
skills will be the camp’s
primary focus.”
In addition to summer
camps, CROW will offer a
small selection of classes,
which will be held week-
day afternoons after the
camps.
Dates and times can be
found on the “Classes” tab
at crowkids.com. Offer-
ings will include Jazz/Hip-
Hop Combo, Beginning
Youth Tap, Beginning
Irish Dance, Adult/Teen
Tap and even an Adult
Acting class series.
Limited financial-need
based scholarships are
available for classes and
camps.
The summer camp en-
rollment, afternoon class
enrollment, and scholar-
ships application deadline
is June 5th.
Parents should be care-
ful to read the terms of
enrollment carefully and
must submit a deposit or
their child’s space is not
guaranteed.
“Camps are already
nearly half full, so if you’re
thinking of signing up,
don’t wait,” Heard said.
All programming will
be held at the CROW
Center for the Performing
Arts, 3120 Highway 101 in
Florence, and all current
COVID-19 safety proto-
cols will be followed.
“We are so grateful to be
able to re-open our doors.
We are starting small,
carefully following all
COVID-19 safety proce-
dures, and hope to be able
to continue to provide arts
opportunities for the com-
munity throughout fall
and winter,” Heard said.
