For the first time, the county was able to offer vaccina- tions to people who walked up to the door. Also on Friday, Florence Dental Clinic had a small clinic to dis- tribute 100 doses of the Moderna vac- cine. Both services were free of charge to the community. City to distribute another round of PPE to businesses The City of Florence, in coordination with Business Oregon, is distributing a variety of Personal Protec- tive Equipment (PPE) to local small businesses free of charge in round three of PPE distribution. To receive PPE, business- es must have less than 100 employees and be located in the Florence area. Busi- nesses that are interested can sign up on the City of Florence’s website at ci.flor- ence.or.us. The PPE that is available, in limited quantities, is as follows: • Masks • Gloves (size medium & large) • Aerosol Disinfectant Spray • Sanitizing Wipes • Hand Sanitizer Gel • Touchless Thermom- eters The PPE will be distrib- uted on a first come, first serve basis, with priority being given to business- es that did not receive any PPE in the previous rounds of distribution. PPE will start being dis- tributed in late April. To submit a request for PPE, businesses should complete the quick form that can be found at ci.flor- ence.or.us/economicdevel- opment/ppe-businesses-1. City Staff will notify busi- nesses by email with more information about pick up in April. In the first two rounds of PPE distribution, the city distributed over 44,000 masks, 440 packages of gloves, 3,000 packages of disinfectants, 1,000 cans of aerosol sanitizing spray, 215 gallons of hand san- itizer and 163 touchless thermometers to over 250 businesses in the Siuslaw region, serving over 1,142 members of the local work- force. Florence was also able to provide PPE to numerous non-profit organizations with a combined total of over 450 routine volunteers. Garden Club applications still open for adult scholarship The Florence Garden Club is offering a $500 scholarship award for a lo- cal adult student in certain environmental fields. The club is seeking adult applicants who are pursu- ing technical certifications to enter or enhance their careers in specific environ- mental fields. The candidate must be over the age of 18 and be from the Florence or Ma- pleton areas. The candidate must be pursuing certifica- tion or extended studies in fields such as: watershed resources management, watershed science, water conservation, water plant operator, or other sustain- ability/renewable energy careers.
