Florence P.E.O. chapters FQ and DY have a com- bined membership of over 70 women who raise funds and secure educational grants for women. Oregon Women Veterans Conference to be held virtually The Oregon Department of Veterans’ Affairs is excit- ed to announce the return of the Oregon Women Vet- erans’ Conference, which will be held virtually for the first time on Saturday, May 22. Women veterans make up one of the fastest-grow- ing segments of the Oregon veteran community, with an estimated 25,000 women veterans living in the state today, representing nearly one-tenth of overall veteran population. This free biennial confer- ence, organized by ODVA for more than 22 years, cel- ebrates the contributions, diversity and strength of Oregon’s women veter- an community, and is the largest gathering of wom- en-identifying veterans in the state. Last year’s sched- uled conference had to be canceled due to the pan- demic. “We are keeping the orig- inal theme that was chosen for the 2020 event, ‘Stron- ger Together,’ which seems even more appropriate con- sidering all that has trans- pired for Oregonians over the past year,” said ODVA Director Kelly Fitzpatrick, who also is a woman vet- eran. “These challenges have only underscored the strength and resilience of our Oregon veteran com- munity, as well as the im- portance of recognizing and celebrating the com- mon bonds of service and sacrifice that unite us all.” This year’s virtual confer- ence will be presented us- ing Whova, the award-win- ning event management platform that will enable ODVA’s team to replicate major aspects of the in-per- son conference, while gath- ering in a safe, accessible and engaging manner. The program will include inspirational speakers, in- formative seminars and breakout sessions, and op- portunities to network with other women veterans and receive direct assistance in accessing earned benefits and other resources. Florence Farmers Market is looking for 10 volunteers who are available to work through the majority of the season, from mid-May to mid-October, in its original location, next to the public parking lot at the intersec- tion of Kingwood and Bay streets in Historic Old Town Florence. The market will need peo- ple who can assist shoppers where needed, help farmers able for market set-up and tear-down. Each volunteer will be asked to do two-hour shifts per market day, allow- ing plenty of time for their own personal shopping. In accordance with the latest CDC guidelines, vol- unteers will be required to wear masks, practice physi- cal distancing and assist with keeping the market safe.
