Florence PTA offers four student scholarships The Florence Commu- nity PTA announces that it will be offering four $500 scholarships to 2021 high school graduates in Flor- ence. These scholarships are open to graduates of Siuslaw High School and home- schooled students in the Florence area. Students must plan to at- tend an accredited college, community or university, or certified tech school. Students must demon- strate academic potential or achievement, leadership and character. The following items must accompany the application: a financial statement, an of- ficial transcript of grades, a resume and at least one let- ter of recommendation. Applications are available through the Siuslaw High School Student Services. The deadline for applica- tions is April 15. Completed applications can be turned in to the Stu- dent Services department at Siuslaw High School if attending there; or if home- schooled, mail to Florence Community PTA, P.O. Florence ‘Earth Day’ event set for April 15-22 This year’s Earth Day is April 22 and, despite Covid-19 restrictions, the Earth Day committee is planning a people-friendly, safe event for the Florence area community. The Florence Earth Day Porch Parade will com- mence April 15 and continue through the next week. Indi- vidual homes and businesses C O A S T — or pairings of both — can decorate their porch or yard to celebrate Earth Day. The theme this year is “Restore Our Earth.” Community members can use their imagination in dec- orating, with themes of recy- cling, climate, tree planting, green energy, beach clean-up and more encouraged.
