EUGENE—The Lane
Community College (LCC)
Board of Education ap-
proved tuition rates for the
2021-22 academic year at
its March 17 meeting, and
prepared for an emergency
fee in the event of insuffi-
cient state funding.
This year, resident stu-
dents are paying $126 per
credit hour. That includes
$121 in tuition plus a $5
emergency fee that was in-
stituted last summer due to
the economic impact of the
pandemic. That $5 fee is set
to be retired at the end of
this academic year.
Next year, students will
continue to pay $126 per
credit hour, but for tuition
only, provided that the state
funds Oregon’s 17 com-
munity colleges at $640.9
million or better in the
2021-23 biennium. If state
funding falls below that
level, then LCC will have to
add another emergency fee.
The board approved a $10
fee, contingent upon state
funding.
LCC hopes to use the

“Tropic of Stupid”
By Tim Dorsey

Serge Storms is a lover of
history, so he’s decided to
investigate his own using
one of those DNA services
from late-night TV. Excited
to construct a family tree,
he hits the road with Cole-
man to meet his kin. Along
the way, he plans to intro-
duce Coleman to the Sun-
shine State’s beautiful parks,
where Serge can brush up
on his flora and fauna and,
more importantly, collect
the missing stamps for his
park passport book.
But as the old saying goes,
the apple doesn’t fall far.
Serge is thrilled to dis-
cover he may be related
to a notorious serial killer
who’s terrorized the state
for 20 years and never been
caught. Which one of his
newfound relatives will be
the one to help him hunt
down this deranged mani-
ac? Or is Serge unknowingly
chasing his own tail?
Tim Dorsey is the author
of 23 novels, including “Flor-

Health is our #1 Priority!
At Shervin’s we are taking extra precaution in order to ensure that our customers and staff are kept safe
and healthy during this quickly changing situation.
1 Car Sanitation – All cars are wiped down with a sanitizer before and aft er the service. We wipe down
any areas in the interior where employees have touched, such as door handles, the steering wheel, keys,
shift ers and power window panels.
2 Hand Sanitation- Our staff will continue to wash their hands throughout the day and change gloves
aft er each car they service.
3 Give Customers Options- We will pick up and deliver your vehicle to your home. You may also drop
your key in our secure mailbox for drop-off s to avoid or minimize contact.
4 Employee Illness is Serious- We are encouraging employees
not to shake hands. We are practicing “personal distancing” and
encouraging employees to stay home if they feel under the weather.
5 Wipe Down High Touch Points- We wipe/spray counters, credit
card machines, door handles, phone handles, kitchen areas, and
chair arms and tables in waiting area multiple times a day.
We continue to be focused and committed to working with each
of you to ensure we continue to meet and exceed your expecta-
tions. We are here for you.
We thank you for your business and more importantly, your
friendship. Please be safe and exercise extra precaution during this
challenging time.
