2B | WEDNESDAY, JANUARY 27, 2020 | SIUSLAW NEWS Oregon Coast Humane Society to host drive-thru pet microchipping clinic The Oregon Coast Humane Society (OCHS) wants every lost or stolen pet to find its way home. To that end, it will host a drive-through microchip clinic Saturday, Jan. 30, from 2 to 4 p.m. A microchip is a pet’s permanent ID. It con- tains the pet’s name, description, contact information for its guardian and can include vaccination information and other health records. A microchip is the size of a grain of rice and is injected beneath a pet’s skin. It can be scanned at any animal shelter or veterinarian’s office in the U.S. and is a proven success in reunit- ing lost or stolen pets with their humans. The clinic will be held at the OCHS parking lot, 2840 Rhododendron Dr., in Florence. All pets must be leashed and/or con- tained and able to be restrained during implantation. The OCHS will be asking for a $20 contri- bution, but no one will be turned away. If your pet currently has a microchip, this is a good opportunity to have it scanned and and updated, especially for anyone who has moved or changed contact information. Those who have recently adopted a dog or cat should have the chip checked and updat- ed with curent informa- tion. All chips will be regis- tered within a national database. There are no ongoing fees for registration. OCHS is a local non- profit, no-kill, commu- nity that promotes a life- time commitment to pets. In addition, entrants needed to con- sider functionality of the set design such as aes- thetic design elements, additional scenic com- ponents such as lighting, and whether or not the set would allow for easy traffic flow and use by actors or dancers. Rules also stated that the entries must be designed based upon one of CROW previous mainstage musicals. Since 2011, CROW has produced eight mainstage youth musi- cals and four years of The Holly Jolly Follies, but unfortunately was forced to cancel its 2020 production of Disney’s “Mary Poppins” and all events for the rest of the year. But that doesn’t surprise me in the slightest, because our CROW kids are amazingly creative and innovative young peo- ple,” Heard said. “I am proud of all of the kids who entered the con- test.” Heard also added a special shout-out to CROW’s donors and sponsors who have helped the organization stay alive despite the enormous financial challenges of the past year. “We are truly grateful for your generosity, and this project demon- strates that we are here to stay and will be ready to re-open when it’s safe to do so.” CROW hopes to resume some semblance of “normal” operations by summer 2021, pend- ing successful distribu- tion of the COVID-19 vaccine and state gov- ernment guidelines. For more than 20 years, the Yachats Lions Club has held an “all the Crab you can eat” event in Yachats, Ore. The annual trek to Yachats to eat Dungeness Crab is a tradition for families and groups from across Oregon and Washington.
