Through Lane Arts Council’s ArtStream program, every student will receive materials and be able to follow a video tutorial from an art- ist. Florence Regional Arts Alliance is working with Lane Arts Council, with support from the Western Lane Community Foundation, to create this distance-learning opportunity. Future projects will include painting lessons and other art forms. The Oregon Coast Hu- mane Society (OCHS) wants every lost or stolen pet to find its way home. That’s why it will host a drive-through microchip clinic on Saturday, Jan. 30, from 2 to 4 p.m. “A microchip is your pet’s permanent ID. It contains the pet’s name, description, contact in- formation for its guard- ian, and can include vac- cination information and other health records,” said an OCHS staff member. “The microchip is the size of a grain of rice and is in- jected beneath your pet’s skin. It can be scanned at any animal shelter or vet- erinarian’s office in the US and is a proven success in reuniting lost or stolen pets with their humans.” The clinic will be held at the OCHS parking lot, 2840 Rhododendron Dr., in Florence. All pets must be leashed and/or contained and able to be restrained during implan- tation. The suggested contri- bution is $20, but no one will be turned away. If your pet already has a microchip, it’s good to have it scanned and to up- date the data, especially if you’ve moved or changed your phone number. If you’ve recently adopted a dog or cat you should have the chip checked and updated with your infor- mation. OCHS will register all chips with a national da- tabase. There are no on- going fees for registration. OCHS is a local non- profit, no-kill, commu- nity that promotes a lifetime commitment to pets.
