Florence Food Share
and Florence Habitat for
Humanity are teaming up
to help fight childhood
hunger and housing in-
stability.
The Souper Bowl of
Caring started in 1990
when a South Carolina
Sunday school teacher
used Super Bowl parties
as a modern-day exam-
ple of gluttony when fans
eat wings, pizza and chips
they don’t need — while
at the same time someone
in the same town goes
hungry.
The class asked every-
one leaving church on
Super Bowl Sunday to
donate $1 from their Su-
per Bowl party budget to
fight hunger. What start-
ed as a small movement
has grown to a national
effort to give back on a
day of plenty.
Several years ago,
Florence resident Lori
Janowski suggested to
St. Mary Our Lady of
the Dunes parish to join
in this effort. Each year,
St. Mary’s has asked its
congregation to donate
non-perishable food to
Food Share and monetary
donations to Florence
Habitat for Humanity at
the Saturday 5:30 eve-
ning and Sunday 11 a.m.
Masses on Superbowl
weekend.
Several other groups
from the local faith com-
munity have joined with
St. Mary’s to participate
in Souper Bowl of Caring.
This year, the entire
community is being en-
couraged to join together
Super Bowl weekend to
help fight childhood hun-
ger and housing instabil-
ity.

verse and can accommo-
date any dietary restric-
tions and tastes. Guests
are encouraged to start
cooking at the designated
time and share live pho-
tos and videos of their
process.
“We will keep every-
one entertained and en-
gaged with video presen-
tations and interactive
games and prizes,” add-
ed Brown. After dinner,
OCHS will conduct live
and silent auctions.
Brown added that the
event will be giving sneak
peeks at auction items in
the weeks leading up to
Dinner @ Your Place.
‘“This will be the most
unique, fun, and safe way
to support your Oregon
Coast Humane Society,”
said Brown.
The video conference is
free to join for those who
register in advance, and
dinner “tickets” are $120
for two guests or $70 for
one. Dinners must be
purchased before Feb. 1
and will arrive before the
event.

OCHS is a local non-
profit, no-kill, commu-
nity that promotes a
lifetime commitment to
pets.
“We hope many people
will join the fun of Din-
ner @ Your Place and help
us raise funds to support
the work of OCHS,” said
Brown.
In 2020, OCHS found
homes for more than 600
dogs and cats, provided
more than 400 spay/neu-
ter surgeries, distributed
nearly two tons of pet
food to pets in need, and
saved more than 1000 an-
imals.
“We are grateful for any
and all support from the
community, whether it be
food, bedding, toys, cat
litter, bleach and cleaning
supplies, or cash, so we
hope the community will
join us for this unique
event,” Brown said.
All entries must feature
the Chukar partridge in
its natural habitat setting.

Artwork can be mailed
or hand delivered. Pack-
aging tips can be found on
the final page of the contest
rules. We welcome all ages
and skill levels to partici-
pate.
A panel will judge art-
work based on artistic
composition, anatomical
accuracy of the species and
general appeal. All artwork
submitted will be show-
cased at a free art show
open to the public.
Collector’s stamps, art
prints and other promo-
tional materials are pro-
duced from first-place art-
work.
Proceeds from product
sales are used for wildlife
habitat improvement, re-
search projects and conser-
vation efforts.
