ing on the Alsea River is

located at river mile 28.
This is relatively low in
the system and is well

the Christmas Food
Basket Giveaway, said,
“We’re going to plan on
buying food for 500 fam-
ilies this year.”
However, with an
increase in food costs,
she estimated that the
Soroptimists will need to
spend an additional
$10,000 over previous
years.
In addition, due to
restrictions
under
COVID-19, Florence
Soroptimists will not be
doing their toy giveaway
so they can focus on
feeding the community.
“There are no require-
ments, and that’s a really
important
thing,”
Bennett said. “There’s
nothing they have to fill
out to get this box. All
they have to do is come
to the school and say
they need a box and tell
us how big a family
they’re trying to feed.”

SALMON RIVER: Fall
Chinook
Fall Chinook fishing
continues to be slow on
the Salmon River with
the low and clear condi-
tions.
Cutthroat trout fishing
is closed.
NOTE: Reminder, the
Salmon River hatchery
remains closed to walk in
anglers. Anglers can use
access points upstream
and downstream of the
hatchery to access those
traditional fishing loca-
tions.
SILETZ RIVER:
Summer steelhead, fall
Chinook
Fall Chinook fishing
remains steady on the
Siletz River. There are
fish staging in the upper
estuary and lower river
waiting for rain to move
upriver.
The forecasted rain
this week will have these
fish on the move and cre-
ate good conditions for
the tail end of the fall
Chinook run on the
Siletz.
Due to low forecasted
returns for the 2020 sea-
son bag limits have been
reduced. The bag limit
for the Siletz River is 1
wild chinook per day and
5 per year for the 2020
season.
Cutthroat trout fishing
is closed.
The 4-mile bridge (aka
Steel Bridge) in the Siletz
gorge is open to motor-
ized vehicles on the
weekends only. Anglers
can walk/bike in the road
during the weekdays.
There is a parking area
located at the 1-mile gate
where anglers can walk/
bike upstream from there.

WILSON RIVER:
Chinook, steelhead
Fall Chinook fishing
slowed on the Wilson last
week, but this week’s
rains should bump the
river up enough to bring
in some new fish and get
holding fish back on the
move.
Above Jordan Creek,
the Wilson River is closed
to all salmon angling
(including catch and
release). Steelhead fishing
is open in the upper river,
but anglers may not target
salmon.
TENMILE LAKES:
Trout, warmwater species,
largemouth bass
Largemouth bass can
be found around any sub-
merged wood and can be
caught on spinner-baits,
jigs, or crankbaits. As the
water temperatures con-
tinue to cool down, bass
will move into deep water
for the winter.
Yellow perch fishing
continues to be very good
for anglers fishing from a
boat or fishing from a
dock this past week.
Yellow perch have been
in 15-20 feet of water and
are biting on small jigs or
a worm on a hook. If you
fish and area for 10-15
minutes without a bite,
it’s time to move to
another location.
The wild coho fishery
is open on Tenmile Lake
through Dec. 31.
Anglers are allowed to
harvest 1 wild coho per
day and 5 for the season
in aggregate with Siltcoos
and Tahkenitch lakes.
The Tenmile Lake level
is 6.4 ft at the outlet,
which is still too low to
allow a decent number of
coho to enter the lakes.
