In partnership with the Oregon Dungeness Crab Commission and the commercial Dungeness crab indus- try, ODFW tests crab out of Oregon’s six major crabbing ports. Weekly season opening updates are posted online until the decision to open the season is made. Crab were also tested for domoic acid along the entire coast, and all samples were found to be safe for human con- sumption. However, due to elevated levels of domoic acid detected in razor clams in some areas, testing in Dungeness crabs will continue regularly north of Cape Perpetua. In conjunction with the delayed ocean com- mercial season, com- mercial harvest of Dungeness crab in Oregon bays that are currently open will close at 12:01 a.m. Dec. 1 but may reopen if the ocean commercial fishery opens in December. Recreational Dungeness crab harvest in the ocean off Oregon opens Dec. 1 as sched- uled in all areas. Recreational crab har- vesting is currently open coastwide in bays and estuaries, and on beach- es, docks, piers, and jet- ties. Recreational crabbers should always call the Shellfish Hotline (800- 448-2474) or visit the ODA Recreational Shellfish Biotoxin Closures webpage before crabbing. Fishing limit for the Alsea River is 1 wild Chinook per day and 5 per year for the 2020 season. Cutthroat trout fishing closed for the season on Oct. 31. Last updated 11/4/20. SALMON RIVER: Fall Chinook Fall Chinook fishing continues to be slow on the Salmon River with the low and clear condi- tions. Cutthroat trout fishing is closed. NOTE: Reminder, the Salmon River hatchery remains closed to walk in anglers. Anglers can use access points upstream and downstream of the hatchery to access those traditional fishing loca- tions. SILETZ RIVER: Summer steelhead, fall Chinook Fall Chinook fishing remains steady on the Siletz River. There are fish staging in the upper estuary and lower river waiting for rain to move upriver. The forecasted rain this week will have these fish on the move and cre- ate good conditions for the tail end of the fall Chinook run on the Siletz. Due to low forecasted returns for the 2020 sea- son bag limits have been reduced. The bag limit for the Siletz River is 1 wild chinook per day and 5 per year for the 2020 season. Cutthroat trout fishing is closed. The 4-mile bridge (aka Steel Bridge) in the Siletz gorge is open to motor- ized vehicles on the weekends only. Anglers can walk/bike in the road during the weekdays. There is a parking area located at the 1-mile gate where anglers can walk/ bike upstream from there. Last updated 11/4/20. WILSON RIVER: Chinook, steelhead Fall Chinook fishing slowed on the Wilson last week, but this week’s rains should bump the river up enough to bring in some new fish and get holding fish back on the move. Above Jordan Creek, the Wilson River is closed to all salmon angling (including catch and release). Steelhead fishing is open in the upper river, but anglers may not target salmon. TENMILE LAKES: Trout, warmwater species, largemouth bass Largemouth bass can be found around any submerged wood and can be caught on spin- ner-baits, jigs, or crank- baits. As the water tem- peratures continue to cool down, bass will move into deep water for the winter. Yellow perch fishing continues to be very good for anglers fishing from a boat or fishing from a dock this past week. Yellow perch have been in 15-20 feet of water and are biting on small jigs or a worm on a hook. If you fish and area for 10-15 minutes with- out a bite, it’s time to move to another location. The wild coho fishery is open on Tenmile Lake through Dec. 31. Anglers are allowed to harvest 1 wild coho per day and 5 for the season in aggregate with Siltcoos and Tahkenitch lakes. The Tenmile Lake level is 6.4 ft at the outlet, which is still too low to allow a decent number of coho to enter the lakes. Last updated 11/11/20. UMPQUA RIVER, SOUTH: CLOSED The entire South Umpqua and tributaries closed after Sept. 15 as part of the annual closure to protect salmon. PACIFIC OCEAN and BEACHES: Bottomfish, salmon, halibut, surfperch Bottomfishing is open to all depths. The daily bag limit for marine fish was increased to 7 through the end of the year. But anglers must release all cabezon, cop- per, quillback and China rockfish when fishing from a boat. Anglers are also allowed 2 lingcod per day. Anglers may also choose to fish the off- shore longleader fishery outside of the 40-fathom regulatory line, which is open year-round. The longleader fishery has a daily bag limit of 10 fish made of yellowtail, widow, canary, blue, dea- con, redstripe, green- stripe, silvergray, chilli- pepper, and bocaccio rockfish. No other groundfish are allowed and offshore longleader fishing trips cannot be combined with traditional bottomfish, flatfish or halibut trips. Surfperch anglers are having some success on the beaches using sand shrimp or Berkley Gulp sand worms. Ocean Chinook salm- on fishing is now closed until next year. The Nearshore and All Depth Halibut seasons are now closed for the season. PACIFIC HALIBUT: All areas are closed for Pacific halibut for the remainder of 2020. The last two weeks of data for the Pacific hali- but are still being pro- cessed, however there were 28 pounds caught in the Central coast sub- area the week before the season closed. OCEAN SALMON: All areas are closed for ocean salmon fishing for the remainder of 2020. The area from Cape Fal- con to Humbug Mt. will reopen for all salmon-ex- cept coho on March 15, 2021 (this opening could be modified by in-season action during the March 2021 Pacific Fishery. from 1B the forecasted rain. A good shot of rain will move more fish into the lake and get them staging in the creek arms waiting to spawn. These fisheries typically pick up in late October, peak in November, and fish well into December. Last updated 11/4/20. ALSEA RIVER: Fall Chinook Reminder — The deadline for salmon fish- ing on the Alsea River is River Edge boat ramp located at river mile 28. This is relatively low in the system and is well below Fall Creek and the popular steelhead bank access on the N. Fk. of the Alsea River. Know where you are on the river before you start to fish for fall Chinook. Anglers are reminded that due to low forecast- ed returns for the 2020 season bag limits have been reduced.
