However, no one will be allowed out of their vehi- cles to enter the fire sta- tion bay to pick out toys as in years past. Once the toys have been received, or-ganizers will not be able to take any- thing back. “We are once again hav- ing the Coast Guard come to the rescue to help with this event,” said SVFR or- ganizer Capt. Pete War- ren. “In addition, Florence PD is always there, and the Kiwanis Club will be helping us this year, too. They, along with firefight- ers of Siuslaw Valley, are committed to ensuring children continue to re- ceive toys in the area. “Please contribute at the places around town with toy donation boxes.” For more information, call SVFR at 541-997- 3232. 25th annual ‘Light Up a Life’ to be held virtually 4836 Laguna Ave – Luxury lake living on near- ly 5 acres. With COVID-19 still circulating, an in-person I N V I T E D T O gathering wasn’t an op- tion this year — but the unique event will still go on, culminating in an on- line video ceremony on Dec. 12. Throughout the month of November, Peace Har- bor is inviting community members to share sto-ries of their loved ones by vis- iting its website. Visitors can watch a video greeting and bless- ing from Peace Harbor chaplain Dow Cobb and find a link for submitting stories and photos. They can also choose to make a tax-deductible donation to Peace Harbor Hospice. At 2 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 12, the hospice team will debut a video of the traditional name-reading and candle-lighting cere- mony on the Peace Har- bor Facebook page. Participants can watch together from the com- fort of home and post live comments for moderators or fellow attendees. “We never even consid- ered canceling the event this year — we think it’s more important than ever,” said Susan Walters, manager of home care and hospice. “This time of year can be very hard for those grieving the loss of a loved one, whether that loss is recent or from many years ago. With the added isolation and con- cerns about COVID-19, it could be especially dif- ficult this year.” Anyone is welcome to join, Walters added, whether or not their loved one was cared for by Peace Harbor Hospice. “We hope that having a virtual event will allow even more people to par- ticipate,” she said. “We hope this will bring peace and comfort during this very difficult time.” The Light Up a Life website can be found at https://www.peacehealth. org/PeaceHarbor-LUAL. The Peace Harbor Face- book page can be found at www.facebook.com/ Peace Harbor/. Donations can be made online or mailed to Peace Harbor Hospice at 400 Ninth St., Florence, OR, 97439.
