City of Florence, LCC launch scholarship program related to COVID-19
The City of Florence
and Lane Community
College are excited to offer
full scholarships for local
area workers who wish to
participate in Lane Com-
munity College’s Envi-
ronmental Services Aide
Certification program or
their Hospitality/Tourism
Sector Quick Course.
These scholarships are
available to anyone who
works in the City of Flor-
ence’s city limits begin-
ning yesterday, Nov. 20.
“We are pleased to part-
ner with the City of Flor-
ence on this scholarship
program.
This program and the
people who participate in
it display a commitment
to the health, wellbeing
and safety of our commu-
nity and the people who
visit it,” said Russ Pierson,
Dean of Lane Community
College’s Florence Center.
Businesses should en-
launched the Environ-
mental Services Aide
(ESA) program, in di-
rect response to the
COVID-19 Public Health
Crisis.
The 18-hour rapid cer-
tification program aims to
train people how to thor-
oughly clean and disinfect
healthcare facilities, such
as hospital, out-patient
services, and nursing
homes.
LCC President Marga-
ret Hamilton and Oregon
Bureau of Labor & Indus-
try Commissioner Val
Hoyle began discussing
the need for a statewide
program of this caliber in
early April and formed a
team to develop curric-
ulum under the direc-
tion of Russ Pierson, the
Florence Branch of Lane
Community
College’s
Course Background
Dean.
In May 2020, Lane
Once Lane Community
Community
College College launched the full
courage their staff to go
through either program.
Depending on the level of
participation of employ-
ees, businesses will receive
a Gold Star (90 percent of
staff participation), Silver
Star (75 percent partic-
ipation) or Bronze Star
(50 percent participation)
window cling to proudly
display on their doors.

Environmental Services
Aide program, they re-
ceived numerous requests
from businesses and
agency partners through-
out Lane County to cre-
ate a shorter course that
was ultimately designed
with restaurant, retail,
and hospitality workers in
mind.
LCC in turn created an
8-hour quick course that
is specifically designed to
protect the community of
restaurant, hospitality and
retail workers that contin-
ues to show up and serve
our communities and our
visitors.
While there is some
content overlap with
the 18-hour course, the
QuickCourse focuses less
on information specific
to healthcare facilities to
provide more information
for frontline workers out-
side of the medical field.
