She moved to Florence in 1997 to be near their grandson. Joyce enjoyed camp- LOFTIS—Joyce Jane Loftis, 87, of Florence, Ore., passed away peace- fully in her home on Sept. 21, 2020. Joyce was born Feb. 19, 1933 to Wayne Shaf- fer and Martha Shaffer in Oil City, Pa. Joyce Loftis ing, hiking, gardening and reading books. She was a member of the Florence Garden Club for 15 years. Joyce is survived by her husband, George Loftis; two daughters: Rene Loftis and Linda Reeves; son-in-law Jon Reeves; and grandson Jesse Reeves. Joyce was a loving wife, mother and grand- mother. She will be greatly missed. Private cremation rights held. Burns’s Riverside Chapel Florence Funeral Home is in charge of ar- rangements. The Lane County Fire Defense Board postponed the opening of the season due to drier weather con- ditions and heightened fire danger present in Lane County. “Recent rainfall has been beneficial, but fire con- cerns still exist,” said Lane Regional Air Protection Agency (LRAPA) spokes- person, Travis Knudsen. “The Fire Defense Board will reassess the opening of the season in mid-October. It’s not unusual for fall out- door burning season to be delayed after dry and hot summers.” Outdoor burning, also known as open or backyard burning, allows some Lane County residents to burn dry woody yard debris that was generated on their own residential property. LRAPA encourages resi- dents to explore alternative options to burning. Resi- dents can dispose of woody yard debris for a mini- mal charge at one of Lane County’s various collection depots.
