OHA releases weekly testing summary for Sept. 6-12
OHA’s most recent Week-
ly Testing Summary showed
that as of Sept. 12, Oregon’s
cumulative positivity rate is
4.6 percent of people tested.
This is considerably low-
er than the national average
of 8 percent. Of the 17,365
test results reported so far
for the week of Sept. 6-12,
965 — or 5.6 percent —
were positive.
The total for that week is
likely to rise as test results
State unemployment drops to 7.7 percent
Oregon’s unemployment
rate dropped to 7.7 percent
in August from 10.4 percent
in July. The unemployment
rate was more than double
last year’s rate of 3.6 percent
in August 2019.
Meanwhile, the U.S. un-
employment rate dropped
to 8.4 percent in August
from 10.2 percent in July.
Oregon’s total nonfarm
payroll employment rose
by 11,300 jobs in August,
following a revised gain of
17,700 jobs in July.
O v e r- t h e - m o nt h j o b
gains in August were larg-
est in leisure and hospitality
(+4,200 jobs); retail trade
(+3,300);
construction
(+3,200); and government
(+3,000). Two industries
cut a substantial number
of jobs in August: whole-
sale trade (-1,400 jobs) and
health care and social assis-
tance (-1,400).
Oldie “Doodie” Letts
Jan. 22, 1920 - Sept. 1, 2020
Oldie M. “Doodie” Letts,
100, of Eugene died of natural
causes in her home on Sept. 1,
2020. She was born to Sinclair
and Olga (Petersen) Morris
in Florence, OR, on Jan. 22,
1920. She attended Siuslaw
High School and graduated
valedictorian in 1937. During
high school she reported on
Florence news for the Eugene
Register Guard. Aft er gradu-
ation she worked in the City
Recorder’s offi ce and was a
typesetter for the Siuslaw Oar
(now the Siuslaw News). She
married Charles Letts of Cam-
den, NJ, in 1939. Aft er living in
Florence, the couple resided on
the east coast before returning
to Oregon, eventually settling
in Gardiner and later, Reed-
sport. Th ey had seven children.
Charles died in 1991. Survi-
vors include her sons, Charles
Letts of Eugene and Ed Letts
of Ban Pong Daeng, Th ailand;
daughters, Mary Botcheos of
Welches, Anna Allison, Amy
Bartlett and Francie Post of
Eugene, and Kate Dishion of
Coquille; many grandchil-
dren, great-grandchildren, two
great-great grandchildren, and
numerous nieces and nephews.
She will be remembered for her
kind nature, her love of reading
and traveling and her wry wit.
A funeral Mass was held at St.
Paul’s Catholic Church in Eu-
gene and her body was interred
in the mausoleum at Dunes
Memorial Chapel in Reed-
sport. Memorial contributions
can be made to RAICES (Ref-
ugee and Immigrant Center for
Education and Legal Services)
to help families separated at
the border. Th eir welfare was a
concern of hers until her death.

most recent week.
