SIUSLAW NEWS | WEDNESDAY, SEPTEMBER 9, 2020 | 7A Library Tidings Book Review “Until the End of Time” by Brian Greene “Until the End of Time” is Brian Greene’s breathtaking new exploration of the cosmos and our quest to understand it. The universe is astoundingly vast both in time and in space, and yet it appears to be gov- erned by simple, elegant, math- ematical laws. Guided by these laws, Greene takes us on a journey from our most refined understanding of the universe’s beginning to the closest science can take us to the very end. He explores how life and mind emerged from the ini- tial chaos, and how our minds, in coming to understanding their own impermanence, seek in different ways to give mean- ing to experience: in narrative, myth, religion, creative expres- Library Tidings features news about sion, science, the quest for truth, and our longing for the timeless. upcoming Siuslaw And, as Greene describes, it Public Library is within these pursuits that we programs for adults experience profound wonder and children, new and create great beauty, even as books and videos, the universe and all it contains is and other library destined for decay. news of interest to Through a series of nest- the community. ed stories that explain distinct but interwoven layers of real- Library Tidings by ity — particles to planets, con- sciousness to creativity, matter Kevin Mittge News about the Siuslaw Public Library to meaning — Greene traces the interplay along the cosmic timeline between entropy and evolution, providing us with a clearer sense of how we came to be, a finer picture of where we are now, and a firmer grasp of where we are headed.
