The deadline for struggling to remain pos- itive, amidst a seemingly endless onslaught of disap- pointment. Myself includ- ed.” According to Heard, she and CROW’s board of di- rectors became sad when the realization finally set in that CROW was not go- ing to be able to offer the non-profit’s annual Scare- CROW Haunted Maze. “I look forward to the maze every year,” she said. “We had already selected a theme, and we were cross- ing all of our collective fin- gers that the maze would somehow be allowed to happen.” But with statewide COVID-19 restrictions, large gatherings are still impossible. CROW’s entire non-profit organization is built upon gatherings such as classes, workshops, events, and performances — none of which have been able to happen since March. CROW not only was forced to cancel its mainstage pro- duction of “Mary Poppins,” but all of its camps, classes and fundraisers, leaving the organization gasping for air. “To get our minds off all of the things we ‘can’t’ do, I decided to try to focus on something we ‘can’ do,” Heard said. “I feel a strong calling to do whatever we can to boost morale in the community.” That’s when Heard had the idea for a Pumpkin Carving Contest. She add- ed that CROW’s students, families, volunteers, sup- porters and the incredible artists in the community of Florence are “some of the most talented and creative people” she knows. Specific rules and general information about entering the contest are currently available on CROW’s web- site. But for now, CROW Farm Direct Checks ? Bring them to the market for fresh produce!
