ODHS approves increased SNAP food benefits for September
The Oregon Department
of Human Services has re-
ceived approval from Food
and Nutrition Services to
disburse increased food
benefits in September.
This additional $30 mil-
lion for eligible Supplemen-
tal Nutrition Assistance
Program (SNAP) re-cip-
ients will bring the total
increased benefits to $150
million.
SNAP households will
automatically receive the
additional allotment in the
same way they receive their
current benefits. For most
customers this is an EBT
card.
The additional benefit
amount will be disbursed
on the schedule below to all
eligible SNAP households.
Some recipients may not
see it until the following
day.
Oregonians already en-
rolled in SNAP do not need
to take any additional ac-
tion.
Dates people should ex-
pect more information:
Sept. 11: Current SNAP
households not receiving
the SNAP maximum allot-
ment
Sept. 30: New SNAP cus-
tomers who did not receive
the Sept. 11 allotment and
are not receiv-ing the maxi-
mum benefit
The increase brings all
households to the maxi-
mum SNAP benefit. House-
holds that already receive
the maximum benefit will
not receive any additional
benefits.
This allotment will not
permanently change a
household’s monthly bene-
fit amount. It is a temporary
supplement to help during
the current health crisis.
The Oregon Department
of Human Services will not
be sending individual no-
tices to households about
the emergency allotments.

OEM offers tips to beat heat, stay safe during wildfire season
High temperatures and
low humidity are forecasted
across the state this week-
end, bringing concerns
about heat-related illnesses
and wildfire activity.
Heat-related illness is a
serious threat, especially
for elderly, youth, those
without air conditioning,
and those working or exer-
cising outdoors.
Helpful tips for heat safe-
ty include:
• Hot cars can be deadly.
Never leave children or pets
in your vehicle. The inside
temperature of a car can
quickly reach 120 degrees.
• Slow down, stay in-
doors and avoid strenuous
exercise during the hottest
part of the day.
• Use a buddy system
when working in excessive
heat. Take frequent breaks
if working outdoors.
• If you’re out on the wa-
ter to stay cool, be sure to
wear a life jacket and wear
sunscreen.
• Stay hydrated, drink
water, and avoid drinks
with caffeine or alcohol.
• Check on family,
friends and neighbors who
do not have air condition-
ing, who spend much of
their time alone or who are
more likely to be affected
by the heat.
• Even in high heat, face
coverings are important
in times of COVID-19. Be
sure to wear one inside or
outside when you cannot
maintain a 6 ft. distance
from others.
• The American Red
Cross Heat Wave Safety
sheet provides addition-
al guidance on what to do
before and during extreme
heat, and how to treat
heat-related illnesses.
Current weather condi-
tions can also create or ex-
acerbate wildfire activity.
During these times, com-
mon everyday activities
such as mowing the lawn
or pulling your vehicle off
to the side of the road may
start a wildfire.
Here are some good wild-
fire safety tips to review:
•
Do not mow
when it’s windy or exces-
sively dry; lawn mowers are
designed to cut lawn, not
weeds or dry grass. Metal
blades striking rocks can
create sparks and start a
fire.
•
Make sure your
vehicle is properly main-
tained with nothing drag-
ging on the road. Don’t
drive on dry grass or brush
since hot exhaust pipes and
mufflers can start fires.
•
Carry a fire extin-
guisher in your vehicle and
learn how to use it.
•
Smoke levels can
vary dramatically during
wildfires and also causes
additional compli-cations
with the COVID-19 pan-
demic.

tional guidance on staying
safe when a wildfire threat-
ens.

1 Car Sanitation – All cars are wiped down with a sanitizer before and aft er the service. We wipe down
any areas in the interior where employees have touched, such as door handles, the steering wheel, keys,

2 Hand Sanitation- Our staff will continue to wash their hands throughout the day and change gloves
aft er each car they service.
3 Give Customers Options- We will pick up and deliver your vehicle to your home. You may also drop
your key in our secure mailbox for drop-off s to avoid or minimize contact.
4 Employee Illness is Serious- We are encouraging employees
not to shake hands. We are practicing “personal distancing” and
encouraging employees to stay home if they feel under the weather.
5 Wipe Down High Touch Points- We wipe/spray counters, credit
card machines, door handles, phone handles, kitchen areas, and
chair arms and tables in waiting area multiple times a day.
