MOORE—Jack Orson
Moore, born Oct. 10, 1934
(Colfax, Wisc.), passing on
July 29, 2020.
Due to the pandemic, a
private ceremony will be
held with his immediate
family. In lieu of flowers,

Below
is from Jack’s Memoir’s he
wrote a few years ago:
“From as far back as I can
remember, I always wanted
to be a carpenter. Teaching
was more secure, but I even
thought about becoming a
minister. But I felt I lacked
the polish to preach to all
ages, and that through my
interest in sports I could
help young people more. I
loved teaching in the class-
room (or shop) but thought
many of my administrators
and all of the legislators
where nuts.
The pay for teachers was
ridiculous. I drew designs
and plans for over 1,000
buildings (houses, remod-
els, additions and several
small commercial build-
ings). Without the income
from this, I would have had
to quit teaching and proba-
bly would have been a con-
tractor.
I am very proud of my
family. My wife, who stuck
with me through some
tough times, I hope she’ll
write her memoirs; I know
she’ll do a better job than
me.
Sean and Darrin both
married well and have very
fine children. Kevin is still
single and lives in Ore-
gon. I, along with volun-
teers, helped him to build
a house in Diamond Lake
Junction where he owns a
café...”
Jack was an Eagle Scout
and Scout Master of Troop
25. He graduated from
Chico State University and
was a charter member of
Phi Kappa Tau.
He taught for over 31
years. Jack began his teach-
ing career at Brett Harte
Junior High in Oakland,
Calif., then at Piedmont
High School (teaching and
coaching JV basketball,
varsity baseball).
Later, he moved to Col-
fax, Calif., to teach at Col-
fax High School (coaching
JV basketball and varsity
baseball).
He taught architectur-
al drafting and drawing at
Sierra Junior College for
20 years before retiring in
1989.
Jack wanted everyone
to know “He knew how
to work.” He always loved
to have a project. Some of
those projects included an
addition to the Lutheran
Church in Meadow Vista,
Calif., and several proj-
ects at New Life Lutheran
Church in Florence, Ore.:
The Memorial Garden
plaque, Grapevine rendi-
tion behind the alter, Lec-
tern, and he was working
with the men’s club on an
addition to the fellowship
hall and the ABC Pre-
school.
During all of this time,
he was able to help with
Habitat for Humanity.
Jack was a dog lover too,
having several dogs: Casey,
Gomer, Rusty, Maxwell,
Bruiser, Maggie and Tilly.
Police seek whereabouts of two suspected kidnappers
On Aug. 23, at approxi-
mately 7:30 a.m., Troopers
from Oregon State Police
Florence and Springfield
Area Command responded
to an injured male on Hwy.
126 W. near milepost 26.5.
The male victim was lo-
cated on the highway with
extensive injuries to his
head, face and body and was
transported to PeaceHealth
Peace Harbor Hospital in
Florence for treatment of his
injuries.
It was reported that Mi-
chael Light and two addi-
tional unknown males had
assaulted the male victim for
an extended period of time
in his campsite before Mi-
chael Light left with a female
victim against her will.
At some point in the ear-
ly morning hours, the male
victim escaped into a heavi-
ly forested area and hid un-
til daylight hours before he
was eventually found on the
highway.
An area search located

male victim in a vehicle in
the area. Michael Light was
taken into custody without
further incident.
Florence landlord
accused of housing
discrimination
The U.S. Attorney’s Of-
fice announced Monday
(Aug. 24) that it has filed
a lawsuit in federal court
alleging that the owner of
residential rental housing
in Florence, Ore., made
discriminatory statements,
preventing a foster parent
from applying to rent a
home, in violation of the
federal Fair Housing Act.
The lawsuit, filed in the
U.S. District Court in Eu-
gene, alleges that Kathie
Carmer, 74, of Florence,
engaged in unlawful famil-
ial status discrimination
in connection with a sin-
gle-family home in Flor-
ence that she had adver-
tised for rent on Craigslist.
The civil complaint al-
leges that a prospective
tenant called Carmer in
November 2018 to inquire
about the rental and dis-
closed that she was looking
for a residence suitable for
herself and her four foster
children.
The filed complaint
asserts three allegations
against Carmer of discrim-
ination against families
with children, based upon
the findings of HUD’s in-
vestigation: (1) refusing
to rent or to negotiate for
the rental of the adver-
tised property because
of familial status; (2) dis-
criminating in the terms,
conditions, or privileges of
the rental of a dwelling be-
cause of familial status; and
(3) making discouraging
and other discriminatory
statements to a potential
renter with children.
Jack is survived by his
wife of 63 years, Colleen
Ann Moore (Jack and Col-
leen resided in Florence,
Ore., for the past 23 years);
three sons: Sean Patrick
Moore (wife Sharon),
Darrin Timothy Moore
(wife Kelley), and Keven
Dow Moore; grandchil-
dren: Blair Ann Hudson
(husband Michael), Blaine
Allan Moore (wife Erin),
Ryan Patrick Moore (fian-
cée Lauren), and Jacklyn
Tara Moore; great-grand-
children: Hayden and
Harper Hudson, and Callie
and Cooper Moore.

Police Major Crimes Section
and the Lane County Sher-
iff ’s Office Criminal Inves-
tigation Division identified
Michael Lokey-Wilson and
Jonathan Dakota Appelt as
the other two suspects in-
volved in the assault and kid-
napping.
Michael
Lokey-Wil-
son is described as a white
male standing 5’11” tall and
weighing approximately 145
pounds with short blonde
hair and blue eyes.
Jonathan Dakota Appelt
is described as a white male
standing 6’ tall and weighing
approximately 185 pounds
with short blonde hair and
blue eyes. Appelt has a prom-
inent tattoo on his neck.
As of press time Tuesday,
Oregon State Police was still
asking for information from
anyone who has seen Mi-
chael Lokey-Wilson or Jon-
athan Dakota Appelt since
Aug. 23 or knows where they
are located to call the OSP
Dispatch Center at 1-800-
