Jane Rincon, Larry Bishop featured artists at Backstreet beginning July 26
COURTESY PHOTOS
Art by Backstreet Gallery artists Jane Rincon (left) and Larry Bishop. Their art will be featured at the gallery July 26 through Aug. 20.
From July 26 to Aug.
20, watercolor artist Jane
Rincon and woodworker
Larry Bishop share the
spotlight at Backstreet
Gallery, 1421 Bay Street.
Rincon executes her
mixed-media paintings
in her crow’s nest studio,
overlooking
Oregon’s
dramatic beaches and
unparalleled skies.
Shorebirds fill her view,
which inspires many of
her scenic seascapes and
bird portraits.
Reflecting her love
of nature, Rincon cap-
tures windswept coastal
scenes, shorebirds, other
animals and landscapes.
She also creates architec-
tural pieces and striking
abstracts.
Her remarkable pieces
combine using Yupo pa-
per, watercolors, acrylics
and collage.
Admire her originality
as she explores her 2D
options.
Rincon’s
beachside
location offers subject
matter but also supplies
the array of seashells
she weaves into strik-
ing wreaths. Her energy
spreads through many
activities that she enjoys;
swimming, biking and
kayaking have offered
many artistict inspira-
tions.
As a long-time mem-
ber, Rincon’s impact on
Backstreet greatly en-
hanced its growth, devel-
opment and success. As
she moves into a well-de-
served retirement, the
gallery will experience
significant loss.
However, she’ll have
opportunities to spend
time with her cat, three
dogs and discover her
creativity in new ways.
Bishop joined Back-
street in 2019.
After growing up in
Elkton, Oregon, he grad-
uated from Oregon State
Universtoy, majoring in
Forestry.
At home, he concen-
trated on home improve-
ments, studied wood-
working on YouTube and
practiced. He brings his
expertise, as a land sur-
veyor and practicing for-
ester, to his art as a mas-
ter woodworker.
Bishop prefers the
challenging segmenta-
tion procedure as his
preferred woodworking
process.
He selects a variety of
indigenous woods from
the Pacific Northwest
and around the world.
Using their unique char-
acteristics and colors, he
laminates them into seg-
mented designs.
Next, he turns them
on his lathe into unique
crea-tions. Some patterns
are linear or geometric,
reminding the viewer
of Indian ornamenta-
tion. Each piece is an
exclusive piece, turned
and hand-finished in his
shop.
His work, though artis-
tically sculptural, may be
practical, such as a roll-
ing pin or a jewelry case.
Who wouldn’t enjoy
having a cutting board
on their kitchen counter-
top that doubles as exqui-
site kitchen decor?
Click on Backstreet’s
website, backstreetgal-
lery.org, to view excellent
examples of his furniture,
beautifully inlaid with
varying tones of woods.
Enjoy these and the
Backstreet artists online
at the gallery’s website.
Due to COVID-19 vi-
rus, Backstreet Gallery is
open Friday-Sunday, 11
a.m. to 4 p.m. Check up-
dates for future extended
hours.
