SIUSLAW NEWS | SATURDAY, JULY 11, 2020 | 5A OSHA online reporting form available for filing COVID-19 complaints As Oregon Occupa- tional Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) continues to process and evaluate complaints related to COVID-19, the division encourages workers and members of the public to use its online workplace hazard reporting form at osha. oregon.gov/workers/ Pages/index.aspx. While people may still call the division with complaints, the online reporting form offers a quicker way to bring concerns to the divi- sion’s attention. “We will continue to take phone calls about workplace hazards con- cerning the novel coro- navirus,” said Michael Wood, administrator for Oregon OSHA. “How- ever, our online system is just as fast — if not faster — at absorbing complaints and allowing us to efficiently respond to them.” Oregon OSHA, a divi- sion of the Department of Consumer and Busi- ness Services, enforces the state’s workplace safety and health rules and works to improve workplace safety and health for all Oregon workers. For more information, visit osha.oregon.gov. The Department of Consumer and Busi- ness Services is Oregon’s largest business regula- tory and consumer pro- tection agency. Siuslaw News + New DMV online service allows appointment scheduling Oregon Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) is replacing its online appointment re-quest form with a new system that lets customers set appoint- ments themselves. Starting this past Monday, July 6, the new appointment scheduler at OregonD- MV.com will let people choose the time, date and office for their ap- pointment — without needing a call-back from DMV. You also will be able to reschedule or cancel an appointment with this new service. In order to catch up with call-backs for the thousands of requests already submitted, DMV stopped taking appointment requests June 26 through the July 4. Currently, someone who submits an online appointment request gets a call back within four or five business days — so if DMV were to keep the online form open longer, people would be getting calls back after the new sys- tem is up and running, delaying their appoint- ment scheduling. How DMV is catching up As of July 3, DMV had received 120,535 requests for appoint- ments since June 1 and had 15,593 customers awaiting a call to set an appointment. “The first online appointment request form gave us a head start in catching up with the COVID-19 back- log,” DMV Adminis- trator Tom McClellan said. “The pause in taking appointment re- quests won’t delay the appointments them- selves.” DMV will continue calling customers in response to submitted request forms. During the holiday weekend Friday-Sunday, the agency replaced its driver licensing system with a new one that offers many new capa- bilities, including the self-service appoint- ment scheduling. “This pause will give most customers who have submitted an ap- pointment request a choice of available slots before other customers start setting appoint- ments themselves,” Mc- Clellan said. DMV will not take appointment requests by phone until further notice. Call centers will be busy respond- ing to other questions, including helping cus- tomers get DMV ser- vices by mail. After the inspection, DMV staff will give you the paperwork to com- plete and mail in. Find the nearest of- fice offering drive-up VIN inspections at Or- egonD MV.com. On the first day of this service, DMV did 843 VIN inspections at 20 offices across the state, opening more appointment slots for other in-person ser- vices. Find the nearest office where no appointment is need- ed for a VIN inspection at OregonDMV.com “For this summer at least, DMV offices will be limited to the few services that must be done in person so that we can serve custom- ers safely during the COVID-19 crisis,” Mc- Clellan said. “To help customers continue driving while we catch up, remember that Or- egon’s law enforcement grace period for ex- pired licenses, ID cards and registration is in effect at least through Oct. 1.” LifeMed • What is LifeMed?
