For the upcoming Fourth
of July holiday weekend,
the Florence Police Depart-
ment will be conducting
extra DUII Enforcement
Patrols.
In the month of May, the
Florence Police Depart-
ment participated in extra
DUII enforcement patrols.
Florence police arrested a
total of 5 drivers for driv-
ing while impaired; issued
7 citations for driving while
suspended; and issued
multiple warnings for other
miscellaneous traffic viola-
tions.

‘Safe Routes’ sidewalk project to begin soon on 26th, 27th streets
Cascade Civil Corpora-
tion will soon begin con-
struction in the area of 26th
and 27th streets.
The project consists of
installing new sidewalks
along the south side of 26th
Street between Oak Street
and Highway 101; new
sidewalk on the north side
of 26th Street from Oak
Street to the fire station em-
ployee parking lot; sidewalk
infill along the north side of
27th Street between Pine
Street right-of-way and the
car wash; paved pedestrian
pathway in the Pine Street
right-of-way between 27th
and 28th streets (completes
the existing paved path);
and new ADA ramps on
Oak Street at 26th and 27th
streets.
Surveying activities be-
gan June 10 and contractor
were moving in equipment
through Friday (June 19.)
Actual construction ac-
tivities are scheduled to be-
gin Monday June 22.
The project is scheduled
to be completed by the end
of September.
Over the next few
months, proceed cautiously
through the work zones or
take alternate routes when
necessary.
Florence Public Works
would like to extend its
thanks to community
members for their patience
as the project moves for-
ward to provide safe, ac-
cessible routes for the com-
munity within these street
corridors.
Although construction
has been planned to min-
imize inconvenience, due
to the nature of this con-
struction project there will
be slight inconveniences,
particularly to the residents
that live along the route of
construction.

that need special accom-
modations, call Public
Works at 541-997-4106.
Florence Public Works
will work with the contrac-
tor to provide accommoda-
tions as best as possible.
This project was made
possible by a $346,400 Safe
Routes to School grant the
City received from the Or-
egon Department of Trans-
portation to improve, edu-
cate and encourage children
on safely walking or biking
to the Siuslaw Schools area
through the construction of
sidewalks, bike paths and
enhanced safety crossings.
