The project consists of installing new sidewalks along the south side of 26th Street between Oak Street and Highway 101; new sidewalk on the north side of 26th Street from Oak Street to the fire station employee parking lot; sidewalk in- fill along the north side of 27th Street between Pine Street right-of-way and the car wash; paved pedestrian pathway in the Pine Street right-of- way between 27th and 28th streets (completes the existing paved path); and new ADA ramps on Oak Street at 26th and 27th streets. Surveying activities began June 10 and con- tractor were moving in equipment through Fri- day (June 19.) Actual construction activities are scheduled to begin Monday June 22. The project is sched- uled to be completed by the end of September. Over the next few months, proceed cau- tiously through the work zones or take alternate routes when necessary. Florence Public Works would like to extend its thanks to commu- nity members for their patience as the project moves forward to provide safe, accessible routes for the community within these street corridors. Although construc- tion has been planned to minimize inconvenience, due to the nature of this construction project there will be slight incon- veniences, particularly to the residents that live along the route of con- struction. For more information regarding the project, or if there are residents that live on the impacted street(s) that need special accommodations, call Public Works at 541-997- 4106. Florence Public Works will work with the con- tractor to provide ac- commodations as best as possible. This project was made possible by a $346,400 Safe Routes to School grant the City received from the Oregon Depart- ment of Transportation to improve, educate and encourage children on safely walking or biking to the Siuslaw Schools area through the con- struction of sidewalks, bike paths and enhanced safety crossings.
