The City of Florence
is eligible to apply for
a 2020 Community De-
velopment Block Grant
from Business Oregon.
Community Develop-
ment Block Grant funds
come from the U.S. De-
partment of Housing
and Urban Develop-
ment. The grants can be
used for public facilities
and housing improve-
ments, primarily for
persons with low and
moderate incomes.
Approximately
$12
million will be awarded
to Oregon non-met-
ropolitan cities and
counties in 2020. The
maximum grant that a
city or County can re-
ceive for an emergency
Public Service Project is
$50,000.
The City of Florence
is preparing an applica-
tion for a 2020 Commu-
nity Development Block
Grant from Business Or-
egon for the COVID-19
Emergency Assistance
grant opportunity. The
grant funding will assist
the City of Florence in
supporting Lane Com-
munity College to pro-
vide low- to moderate
income workers in the
Western Lane County
region training in reduc-
ing the outbreak and/or
the spread of germs and
diseases. Once training
is completed, workers
would receive personal
protection equipment
to assist them in the
recovery eff orts from
the COVID-19 pandem-
ic. It is estimated that
-
the proposed project
will benefi t at least 100
persons of whom 100%
will be low or moderate
income.
A public hearing will
be held by the City of
Florence City Council
on Monday June 22,
2020 at 5:30 p.m. via
the
videoconference
platform gotowebinar.
The purpose of this
hearing is for the City
of Florence City Council
to obtain views and re-
spond to questions and
comments about: Com-
munity Development
and housing needs,
especially needs of low-
and moderate-income
persons, as well as other
needs in the communi-
ty that might be assist-
ed with a Community
Development
Block
Grant project; and the
proposed project.
Parties interested in
participating verbally at
the public hearing must
complete a speaker’s
card available on the
City of Florence web-
