2B | WEDNESDAY, JUNE 3, 2020 | SIUSLAW NEWS Oregon Coast Online Art Show celebrates 157 artists Oregon Coast Council for the Arts organizes remote gallery off ering Th e Oregon Coast Council for the Arts pres- ents the “Oregon Coast Online Art Show” from May 29 to Sept. 7 online at www.coastarts.org/visual- arts-center/oregon-coast- online-art-show. Organized in response to the COVID-19 pan- demic, the show was de- veloped as most galleries and art spaces are shut- tered and artists are un- able to present their work to a viewing public. Th e “Oregon Coast On- line Art Show” currently includes the work of 157 contributing artists, ex- hibiting painting, sculp- ture, photography, mixed media and wearable art works. Th e Oregon Coast On- line Art Show is open to all artists living on the Oregon coast, artists who have shown their work at the Newport Visual Arts Center in the past or cur- rent members of the Ore- gon Coast Council for the Arts. “Th is show is a substan- tial representation of art- ists living on the Oregon coast or who have shown their work here,” said Tom Webb, OCCA’s director for the Newport Visual Arts WLCF from 1B The $2,500 Marteen Wick Future First Citizen Scholarship was presented to Tiffany Hine (OSU). The $1,000 Alan and Virginia Robertson Scholarship was presented to Chloe Madden (OSU). Amelia Wells (LCC) and Ramiro Ramirez (LCC) each received $1,000 Joan Orr Scholarships. The $1000 Larry and Florence Englund Scholarships went to Zachary Stinger (PCC). The $1000 Pat Knipe Visual Arts Scholarship went to Elissa Hurley (Academy of Art Univ). Two $750 Art and Jean Koning Scholarships were awarded to Ricardo Loza- Sanchez (LCC) and Artists from 1B publication that is pro- duced in Florence. The winner of this contest will receive $300 as well as have their photo and bio in the Center. “We have come to- gether remotely to present a rich assortment of visual media for the public to en- joy and consider bringing home.” Th e Oregon Coast On- line Art Show is both a benefi t for the participat- ing artists and the OCCA. All works are for sale and transactions will be han- dled through OCCA. Th e Oregon Coast On- line Art Show was orga- nized remotely. Following a call for submissions, art- ists emailed photographs of their work and accom- panying information to OCCA, which then creat- ed on online gallery space. Artists are limited to one artwork per person, though they may post an additional work if one sells. Coastal art associa- tions, such as the Pelican Bay Art Association and the Nestucca Valley Ar- tisans, helped spread the word. Past VAC exhibition partners, such as the Sandgren PaintOut Proj- ect, the Watercolor So- ciety of Oregon and the Blackfi sh Gallery, shared the call with their mem- bers. Coastal media outlets and KLCC radio presented Arts are doing just that,” said contributing painter Bets Cole. “I am always fascinated by the variety of works that emerge from an area, so personal yet so connected. “It will be a visual feast.” Th e Oregon Coast On- line Art Show will contin- ue to accept submissions on a rolling basis through July 20.
