The fellowship’s offering during January and Febru- ary, in the amount of $1,684, went to Florence Habitat for Humanity. Habitat is cele- brating 20 years in Florence and actively working with the City of Florence to bring affordable housing to the lo- cal community. At Habitat for Humanity, they build. They build be- cause they believe that ev- eryone, everywhere should have a healthy, affordable place to call home. When a family helps build or im- prove a place they can call home, they are also building a better community, and a better life for themselves. Habitat’s website can be found at florencehabitat.org. One of the seven cove- nants or principles that Uni- tarian Universalists affirm is, “The inherent worth and dignity of every person.” The fellowship’s commu- nity donation for March and April will be going to Flor- ence Food Share. Three Rivers Casino Resort to continue closure The Confederat- ed Tribes of Coos, Lower Umpqua and Siuslaw Indians of Oregon Tribal Council has direct- ed casino manage- ment to extend the temporary closure at the Three Rivers Casino Resorts in Florence and Coos Bay. The temporary closure that began on March 18 will remain in effect. While Three Rivers Casino Resorts in Florence and Coos Bay had no reported cases of COVID-19, the temporary closure is a result of guidelines issued by the National Centers for Disease Control to reduce exposure to the virus. The Three Rivers Casino Resorts’ Executive Manage- ment team will continue to monitor the situation nation- ally and locally, and will make a decision when to announce a reopen date based on the safety of its team members and guests. Updates on casino operations will be posted on the website, threeriverscasino. com, as new information be- comes available. Three Rivers was initially opened as a casino-only facility in 2004 and was expanded into a full-service resort including the adjoining ho- tel in 2007. Owned and operated by the Confederated Tribes of the Coos, Lower Umpqua and Siuslaw Indi- ans, Three Rivers Casino Resort has strong ties to the communities along the Central Oregon Coast. For more information, visit threeriverscasino.com. The Confederated Tribes of Coos, Lower Umpqua and Siuslaw Indians are made up of three tribes: two bands of Coos Tribes: Hanis Coos (Coos Proper) and Miluk Coos; Low- er Umpqua Tribe; and Siuslaw Tribe. The tribes trace their ancestry back to the aboriginal inhabitants of the South-Cen- tral coast of Oregon. For more information, visit ctclusi.org. Here is your chance! Despite the current need for social distancing, the Friends of the Florence Events Center is actively working from home in the process of “rebranding.” This vibrant 501(c)3, also known as the Friends of the FEC, exists to support the events center through staging events, raising funds and vol- unteering. Sponsoring activities at the FEC: Festival of Books, Indoor Yard Sale, Art Gallery galas, performances such as 2020 Rhododendron Court Introducing Pri n cess Chloe Madden New Life Lutheran moves online the Winter Music Festival and more. 2. Coordinating with the FEC director to upgrade office equipment, backstage tech and theater lighting and sound. 3. Awarding “performance grants” to local nonprofits, thereby increasing the use of Florence’s premier performing arts venue. In other words, the Friends help pay the theater rent for the Siuslaw middle high school Bands and Choirs, Florence Community PTA, CROW, The Last Resort Play- ers and others. 4. Volunteering! The Friends help stage events such as the State of the City Expo, Florence Food Share Crab Crack, the Country Music Series Con- certs and others. Sound positive? YES IT IS!
