SIUSLAW NEWS | SATURDAY, FEBRUARY 29, 2020 | 5A Learn how ‘Universe Always Says Yes’ On Sunday, March 1, starting at 10 a.m. at the Florence Unitarian Univer- salist Fellowship, the Rev. Dr. Marcia Pearce will share a message titled, “The Uni- verse Always Says Yes.” Pearce will begin a series of talks designed to show how people are constantly setting the Laws of Univer- sal Mind in motion. “The great metaphysi- cal teacher Dr. Raymond Charles Barker often af- firmed, ‘The Universe al- ways says yes —’ a state- ment that encapsulates the law of cause and effect,” Pearce said. “He also said, ‘Our only enemy is our self, and the only thing that can hold us back is our own mind. Whatever we set in motion through our own thought processes, the law must affirm.’” FUUF is located at 87738 Highway 101 at Heceta Beach Road and is wheel- chair accessible. PeaceHealth honors health coach certifications, community scholarships PeaceHealth Oregon recently recognized its first group of care- givers earning health coach certifi- cation as a result of its Integrated Nutrition Pathways Scholarship program. The program, which awards scholarships to Peace- Health caregivers to become a cer- tified health coach from the Insti- tute for Integrative Nutrition, is the first of its kind to be offered by a health system in the United States. Through IIN’s advanced online learning platform, caregivers spent six months to a year completing a comprehensive program focused on nutrition and holistic health. “We are extremely excited to of- fer this important health benefit to our dedicated caregivers — and now members of our community,” said Meghan McCarthy, Peace- Health’s system director of com- munity health. “I truly believe this program is positively changing the fabric of our communities. It’s just one more example of how Peace- Health is innovating and partner- ing to improve the health of our communities beyond our hospital and clinic walls.” PeaceHealth has also gifted health coach scholarships to nine local community partners, includ- ing two based in Florence: • Siuslaw Vision & Florence Food Share • Western Lane Ambulance District for Home Care Services at Peace- Health Sacred Heart, University District, said she’s using her new- “I truly believe this program is positively changing the fabric of our communities. New graduate Delisa Salazar, lead patient access representative found knowledge to help select healthier snacks for the Eugene School District’s NATIVES pro- gram, where she is a volunteer. “It’s been a life changer,” she said. “I lost 35 pounds — it really changed the way I eat and shop. I didn’t expect to learn so much, or change so much.” A total of 77 graduates across PeaceHealth were honored, and more than 150 caregivers have re- ceived scholarships since the pro- gram launched last January.
