SEAcoast presents Neave Trio —
performing works by women composers
O
n We d n e s d a y,
March 4, at 7 p.m.,
the Boston-based Neave
Trio is presented by
SEAcoast
Entertain-
ment Association for a
performance at the Flor-
ence Events Center, 715
Quince St. Th ere will be a
talk with the performers
prior to the show at 6:15.
Th e Neave Trio will
perform works by four
distinguished
women
composers spanning the
Romantic era through
the modern day, includ-
ing Rebecca Clarke’s “Pi-
ano Trio;” Amy Beach’s
“Piano Trio in A minor,
Op. 150;” Cécile Chami-
nade’s “Piano Trio No. 1, Op. 11;”
and Jennifer Higdon’s “Piano Trio.”
Th e trios by Beach and Clarke are
on Neave’s latest recording, “Her
Voice” (released Oct. 4, 2019, on
Chandos Records), along with Lou-
ise Farrenc’s “Piano Trio No. 1.”
Since forming in 2010, Neave Trio
(Anna Williams on violin; Mikhail
Veselov on cello and Eri Nakamura
on piano) has earned enormous
praise for its engaging, cutting-edge
performances.
Th e New York Times said, “What

gives here of works that deserve
them,” and included the third move-
ment of Clarke’s trio in the “Best 25
Classical Music Tracks of 2019.”
According to Williams says,
“Th ere is so much great repertoire
that is under-performed, especially
from women composers, and we feel
it is essential to program and record
these masterworks alongside the
more well-known catalogue of pia-
no trio repertoire. Th ese women re-
ally broke down barriers and paved
the way for future generations and
we are excited to honor their unique
contributions and voices.”
Th e Neave Trio —WQXR ex-
plains, “‘Neave’ is actually a Gaelic
name meaning ‘bright’ and ‘radiant’,
both of which certainly apply to this
trio’s music making” — has been
included in several “best of ” round-
ups across the country.
Neave has performed at many
esteemed concert series and at fes-
tivals worldwide.
Highlights of Neave’s 2019-20
season include concerts at Lincoln
Center’s Mostly Mozart Festival,
the Smithsonian American Art Mu-
seum, Arizona Friends of Chamber
Music, Brown University, Feldman
Chamber Music Society, Chamber
Music Society of Williamsburg and
the Boise Chamber Music Series,
among many others.
