Ford chose the neutral posi- tion in the 3rd round, and Buss secured a narrow 3-2 lead with a hard-fought takedown. Ford, in frustration, committed an unnecessary roughness penalty, giving Buss a 2-point cushion. From there, the Viking fresh- man dominated Ford on top, squelching any attempt by Ford to escape. Buss’ 4-2 victory put him in the finals against State 4A top-rated Evan Potter from Junction City, who pinned Buss in the first round. “Nonetheless, Buss’ second place performance was a great JARED ANDERSON/SIUSLAW NEWS Mapleton’s Nate Neece battles in the paint against Crow. The gym was packed with people cheering loudly for both teams. Kids were playing their hearts out.” Going into the game, Perry told his players that they could go toe-to-toe with Junction City, ranked 14th in the 4A, compared to Siuslaw’s current No. 21 ranking. “Whatever team that’s going to do the little things the best is going to come out of here with the victory,” Perry said in See MID COAST LAKES: Stocking of the mid-coast lakes will start up again the first week of February.
