SIUSLAW NEWS | SATURDAY, FEBRUARY 22, 2020 | 5A Conquer the blank page at FRAA writing workshop FUUF looks at Third Principle On Sunday, Feb. 23, starting at 10 a.m. at the Florence Unitarian Uni- versalist Fellowship, Dr. Ruth Miller will share a message titled, “… and No One Left Out!” To accept one another and encour- age spiritual growth is not always easy, but it is the essence of Univer- salism. Miller will share some of the his- torical and futuristic roots, impacts and implications of the Third Prin- ciple adopted by the members of the Unitarian Universalist Association when it formed in the 1960s. “What does it mean to accept one another? How does one person en- courage another’s spiritual growth in a way that is honoring and respecting them? Is there a basis for this idea in the sacred scriptures?” These are some of the questions and considerations Miller will be ex- ploring in her program. The fellowship is located at 87738 Highway 101 at Heceta Beach Road and is wheelchair accessible. Each service concludes with refreshments and a dialogue circle to explore the questions that come up during each worship service. FUUF welcomes all races, creeds and gender orientations — come as you are, discover what you can be. For more information, visit FUUF’s new website at FlorenceUUF.com. Many people feel inspired to write but often don’t know where to begin when facing the blank page. Even experienced writers get stuck and struggle to transfer their ideas onto paper. “The Blank Page: Conquer It, Fill It and Master It” will take place on Saturday, Feb. 29, from 10 a.m. to noon at the Florence Regional Arts Alliance (FRAA), 120 Maple St. in Historic Old Town. Taught by FRAA creative writing instructor Catherine J. Rourke, the class will show writers of all levels and genres how to overcome blank- page paralysis and get their words flowing. Together this class explore the world of creative possibilities presented by the blank page and learn tips for filling it with powerful prose. No two workshops Screening Presented by: The Siuslaw News Thursday, FEbruary 27, 2020 are ever alike and the program offers a great refresher for prior attendees to flex their creative muscles. Classes fill up quickly, so pre-registration is requested. Cost: $20 FRAA members, $25 non-members; pay at the door. To register, call 541-708-2120 or e-mail CJReditor@gmail.com.
