Brauer O n Dec. 18, the 90th birthday of Dr. A.J. Brauer was celebrated at New Life Lutheran Church in Florence. Brauer is well known for all his contributions and help to the community. He was instrumental in founding both the church and Oregon Pacific Bank. He served 28 years on the board of directors at the bank. He operated a clinic across from the old hospital on 12th St. He was active in Rotary and was instrumental in getting Lane Community College established in Florence. He also did missionary work in Kenya, Africa. Brauer is also a deacon at New Life Lutheran Church. New Life Lutheran Church is located at 21st and Spruce streets. Courtesy photo Explore ‘Road Less Traveled’ at Backstreet 541-997-2422 A special show of work by Backstreet members entitled “The Road Less Traveled” will be exhibited at Backstreet Gal- lery, 1421 Bay St. in Historic Old Town Florence in March. The reception will be held during the Second Saturday Gallery Tour on March 14 from 3 to 5 p.m. The display will include both three-dimensional and two-di- mensional works executed in oil, watercolor, acrylic or pho- tography. These pieces will take viewers down a path of beauty, surprise, discovery, or give an ap- preciation of the artists’ travels. There will be jewelry pieces in gold, silver or copper that will add pizzazz to anyone’s ward- robe. Beautifully finished wood pieces, gourds and fabric art will leave a lasting impression. This one-stop Community Career Fair will feature over 40 businesses on-hand and looking to hire, employment opportunities including summer employment, com- munity business connects and the resources needed for a great career choice. Past Career fairs have had over 300 participants. Attendance is free. Mittge is the Adult Ser- vices Librarian at the Siu- slaw Public Library, a mem- ber of the Association of Professional Genealogists and an active genealogist for the past 43 years.
