FRAA makes donation to Siuslaw bands
Florence Regional Arts
Alliance (FRAA) donated
$648 to Siuslaw middle and
high school band programs.
The funds were raised from
FRAA’s Christmas tree or-
nament sales.
FRAA, a non-profit or-
ganization, supports all the
arts, including outreach to
area youth. A check was
presented to Chris Row-
botham, Director of Bands
for Siuslaw Middle School
and High School, by FRAA
president Kristin Anderson
and several board mem-
bers.
Accompanying Rowboth-
am during the presentation
was Siuslaw Middle School
counselor Sarah Girard,
who described Rowbotham
as “a caring and compas-
sionate teacher” who in-
spires excellence in his stu-
dents and makes Siuslaw’s
band program “one of the
best in the state.”

go to Seattle and perform in
the Western International
Band Clinic.
Rowbotham
thanked
FRAA for its donation,
which will help students to
be in band performances.
“The funds donated by
FRAA are earmarked to get
instruments in the hands of
kids that may need assis-
tance,” he explained.
Between the middle and
high school, there are a to-
tal of 118 band students.
Future band performances
include March 16, when
middle school students will
perform, and April 27, when
high school students will
perform.
Both performances will
be held at the Florence
Events Center.
“These are excellent op-
portunities to enjoy incred-
ible performances,” said Gi-
rard.

clude marching in the
Rhody Days and Veteran’s
Day parades.

Wedding vow renewals to be
held at Yachats’ Log Church
“Remembrance, Re-Vi-
sion, and Renewal” will be
the theme of the annual
Ceremony of Renewal and
Commitment to be held on
Friday, Feb. 14, at the Little
Log Church in Yachats.
This will be the 25th year
the Log Church has offered
couples the opportunity to
renew their vows in a group
setting. Both married and
unmarried committed cou-
ples are invited to attend.
Once again, the Log
Church will offer the cere-
mony at two times: The first
at noon and the second at
5:30 p.m.
Mary Crook, the inde-
pendent minister who has
facilitated the event since
the tradition began, said
that hundreds of couples
have come to Yachats to
renew their vows over the
years.
“For some couples it is a
first-time experience; for
others it has become an an-
nual tradition — something
fun and meaningful to do
on Valentine’s Day,” Crook
said.
Local violinist Ruth Mock
will provide music for the
group at the noon ceremo-
ny. Popular local guitarist
Richard Sharpless, also of
Yachats, will play a selec-
tion of romantic pieces at
5:30 p.m. Couples attending
will be given a certificate as
a memento of the occasion.
The Valentine’s Day vow
renewal has become a pop-
ular fundraiser for the Lit-
tle Log Church, which will
undergo a complete reno-
vation in the near future. A
donation to the museum of
$20 per couple is suggested.
Since space is limited,
reservations are required.
For reservations, call Crook
at 541-547-4547.
