Last night, they were on the road to play No. 15-ranked Junction City (after press deadlines). This Tuesday, Siuslaw will host Cottage Grove before traveling to Eugene to face league leader Marist (4-0, 14-3) next Friday. In the girls’ game last Tuesday, it was another heart- breaker for the Lady Viks. Throughout the first three quarters, it looked as though Siuslaw was in the midst of pulling off its first home game win of the season. Both teams struggled in the first quarter, but the Viks were able to create a small 2-point lead at the end of the period at 8-6. They were able to hold onto a narrow lead See SIUSLAW 3B See LITTLE 2B ODFW R EGIONAL F ISHING R EPORT www.dfw.state.or.us/RR MID COAST LAKES Stocking of the mid-coast lakes will start up again the first week of February. For the first two minutes of play, it appeared the game would be a blowout as Elmira’s strong offense, coupled with some missed shots by Siuslaw, saw the Falcons jump to a quick 9-0 advantage. But the Viks rallied, drain- ing 14 points to finish the first quarter with a 4-point, 17-13 lead over the Falcons. Elmira fought back in the second period, outscoring the Viks 14-10 for at halftime tie at 27-27. In the third quarter, the battle continued in a tug-o- war that saw Siuslaw ahead by 8 points, then then the Falcons rallied to close the gap within 2 points, 44-42, heading int the final period. The Viks held nothing back coming into the fourth quarter, extending its defen- sive pressure and stealing the first nine points in a near mirror image of the first quarter. However, unlike the second quarter, the Falcons never recovered, with Siuslaw pulling away for a 62-54 win. Brody Terry led scoring with 15 points, followed by Liam McClellan with 14 and 12 points each from Avery Hart and Braydon Thornton. Tuesday night’s win was key for Siuslaw in maintain- ing its battle for a playoff spot. Standing at 2-2 in league, the Viks are now ranked 24th, with the top 20 qualifying for a chance at state. Tuesday, Mapleton headed & SHEET METAL, INC. “Your Local Independent Trane Dealer” Florence’s Oldest & Largest Heating Contractor east to Triangle Lake in a twin bill against the Lakers, begin- ning with the Lady Sailors. At 8-2, the Lady Lakers came into Tuesday’s game tied with Eddyville for second place and two games behind first-place Mohawk (10-2). Mapleton, in sixth place in the Mountain West League (2-7), quickly found itself trailing and in an in- surmountable deficit as the Lak- ers out the game away, 46-17. In the boys game, the Sailors (8-8) were looking for a chance to break away from a three-way tie with Crow and Eddyville — and sole possession of third place with a win over the sev- enth-place Lakers (1-9). It wasn’t long before Mapleton had the upper hand, coasting to a decisive 50-25 win. Two night later, the Sailors were on the road at Marcola to face two undefeated Mohawk teams, both at 10-0 and at the top of the league standings. The Lady Mustangs dominat- ed the floor with a high-pressure defense that kept Mapleton to a total of just 7 points. Meanwhile, Mohawk posted 51 to claim the win and remain undefeated in league play (17-2 overall) The boys fared a little better, keeping pace for the first quarter before watching the Mustangs steadily pull away for the re- maining three quarters. Though the Sailors were able to post 30 points in the matchup, the Mus- tangs doubled that amount to remain undefeated with a 60-30 victory.
