Many people took advantage of Oregon State Parks’ First Day Hikes, where volunteers guided attendees on free hikes at 31 state park sites. The week’s intermittent rain also encouraged people to snuggle up inside as they contemplated the New Year and their goals. Pfaff, a 15-year-old 10th-grader, will be the first Youth Representative on the board of directors, giving a valuable perspective.
