Thelma Burgess Sanders,
94, passed away peacefully
Dec. 3, 2019, at her home
in Veneta, leaving family
and friends who will miss
her greatly.
Maxine was born on
Aug. 21,
1925, in
Scotts-
bluff,
Neb., to
Henry
William
B u r -
gess and
Maxine

Sanders
Z e t t a
Cooke, the second young-
est of 10 children. She
grew up in the midst of
the depression in Nebras-
ka and South Dakota. She
met her future husband
and soulmate, Maurice
Keith Sanders, in late 1949
in Denver, marrying him
on Jan. 28, 1950.
They
subsequently
moved to Southern Cali-
fornia, living most of their
lives in the San Fernan-
do Valley of Los Angeles.
After their two children,
Michalene Kerry Sanders
Douglas-Beck and Mau-
rice Keith Sanders, Jr.,
reached their early teen
years, Maxine attended ju-
nior college and then went
on to San Fernando Valley
State College, which later
became California State
University,
Northridge.
After receiving her bach-
elor of arts degree in so-
ciology, she subsequently
earned a master of arts de-
gree in education and her
teaching credential.
She worked from 1970
to 1995 in the Los Angeles
Unified School District as
a teacher and counselor.
After 25 years in the ed-
ucation field, she retired
and spent many happy
years traveling the world
with her husband. Fol-
lowing his death in 2006,
Maxine moved to Florence
for health reasons and en-
joyed a new chapter of her
life, making many new
friends. Later she moved
to Veneta, where she con-
tinued to live a full life un-
til her death.
She was a generous
woman with a great sense
of humor, keen insight
into people and an infec-
tious smile. She was an
avid reader who loved
classical music, travel and
her grandchildren, as well
as blue martinis and red
wine.
She is survived by her
daughter, Michalene (Mik-
ie) Kerry Sanders Doug-
las-Beck of Berthoud,
Colo., and her son, Mau-
rice (Maury) Keith Sand-
ers, Jr., of Florence, Ore.;
her four grandchildren:
Tara Bevin Woodall (Dale
Woodall), Trevor Joseph
Sanders (Jayme Sanders),
Sari Savannah Mayhue
(Shaun Mayhue) and Jozi
Kerry Pearson (Nick Ros-
seau); eight great-grand-
children: Dashiell Henry
Woodall, Elizabeth Marie
Sanders, Annabelle Grace
Sanders, Michael Alexan-
der Sanders, Nathan James
Sanders, Zoie Aoiveann
Kerry del Angel, Kyle Da-
vis Mayhue, Carter Vann
Mayhue and Dania Harp-
er Mayhue. She also leaves
behind two very special
friends whom she loved
dearly, Elke Dodd of Flor-
ence and Cherie Bray of
Veneta.
There will be a private
family gathering during
interment at the Oakwood
Memorial Park and Cem-
etery in Chatsworth, Ca-
lif., where she will rest for
eternity next to the love of
her life, Keith.
McPhedran—Richard
(“Mac”) McPhedran, 81,
of Florence, Ore., passed
away Dec. 10, 2019.
Mac was born in La Sal-
le, Ill., to Alex and Velma
McPhedran. Mac served

in
the
U.S. Air
Force,
during
which he
was sta-
tioned in
Richard
McPhedran Vietnam
and also
worked as an aircraft me-
chanic. After re-entering
civilian life, Mac worked
for over 20 years in Cal-
ifornia as a PG& E fore-
man.
Mac was a member of
the Elks Lodge and was
a very skilled carpenter
who enjoyed undertaking
building projects for his
family’s home and for close
friends. Mac also enjoyed
dancing to live music.
Mac is survived by his
beloved wife, Linda; lovely
daughters Carol, Dawna,
Bridget, Donna and De-
nise; devoted sons Michael
and Chris; his brother
Dan; and numerous won-
derful grandchildren and
great-grandchildren.
Mac was preceded in
death by his parents as well
as his brother, Ronald.
Mac loved to dance and,
with his wife and dance
partner Linda, made a last-
ing impression with their
beautiful and uniquely
decorated cowboy hats
and attire.
Mac — My well-dressed
rhinestone cowboy forev-
er — we are all comforted
and confident knowing
that you are on that special
path known as an electric
slide followed by a 10-step
dance into a beautiful place
called Heaven. Honey, we
will all surely miss you and
vow to continue to live and
love in your honor.
A celebration of life will
take place at a time to be
later determined.

Kallas passed in her sleep
Thursday, Dec. 5, 2019.
Linda taught all that you
can give without receiving.
She was loved and cher-
ished by
friends
and fam-
ily from
coast to
coast.
Be hap-
py
that
she is no Linda Kallas
longer in
pain, because she wouldn’t
have had it any other way.
She will always be
missed.
