It is full of orna- ments displaying the holi- day wishes from our local teenagers. This year, 100 teenagers are invited to participate by simply filling out an ap- plication and wish list and returning it to Twin Lakes Store. Then, teens are asked to attend the Christmas Party on Thursday, Dec. 19, at 6 p.m. to retrieve the gifts. This is the seventh year for this event. Previously, it was limited to teens in the Twin Lakes community north of Florence. Now, the event has been expanded to include teens within the Siuslaw school district. Vicki Ambrosio, owner of Twin Lakes Store and the founder of the yearly Teen Giving Tree explained her reason why she started this event. “The holidays are es- pecially hard on teens for a variety of reasons,” she said. “Often, finan-cial bur- dens on the families leave barely enough money for the younger children to get gifts — leaving the teens without, and they are sim- ply expected to understand. We hold this distribu-tion party to fulfill some of their needs.” Twin Lakes Store is lo- cated three miles north of Florence on Highway 101. Community members are asked to drive out and pick an ornament to shop for. These ornaments are wish lists showing the needs, wants and edu- cational needs of a teen. People should bring back wrapped or unwrapped gifts to Twin Lakes Store before Dec. 15. The distribution party will be held at the Siuslaw Valley Fire and Rescue Main Fire Station, 2625 Highway 101 on Dec. 19 at 6 p.m. sharp. “The party gives them celebration with their peers and puts the spirit of the holidays in their heart,” Ambrosio said. They are very im- pressionable and they need to experience how good it feels to give. My hope is to let everyone in attendance know that one person can make a difference. “Perhaps someday in their future they will come up with a great idea for their community and im- plement it.” For more information or to download the appli- cation/wish list, visit Twin Lakes Store at TwinLakes.
