12A | WEDNESDAY, DECEMBER 4, 2019 | SIUSLAW NEWS NEW COLORING BOOK FEATURES OREGON LIGHTHOUSES In fall 2019, Florence resident Marcia Phillips re- leased “The Lighthouses of Oregon Coloring and His- tory Book.” This unique activi- ty book covers all of the lighthouses of the Oregon Coast, including the local icons of the Heceta Head Lighthouse and the Hece- ta Lightkeeper’s House. A combination of art and his- torical lore, it is designed to appeal to readers and creative artists of all ages. Phillips is a local artist and writer who worked for 30 years as a guide and ranger in the US National Parks and other federal lands. She will be making the book available throughout the entire length and breadth of the Oregon Coast through many light- house giftshops and other venues. Learn ‘Power of Your Spine’ at We’ve got you author’s book signing Saturday COVERED Florence’s local author and fitness specialist Tra- cy L. Markley recently launched her fourth book, “The Power of Your Spine: How Back Strength and Posture Pilots the Entire Body.” A book signing will be held this Saturday, Dec. 7, at Bodega Wine Parlor, 180 Laurel St. in Historic Old Town Florence. Peo- ple are invited to join the gathering between noon and 4 p.m. In “The Power of Your Spine,” Markley shares illustrations of many im- portant spine and back muscles and the physical movements each perform during everyday activi- ties. She feels if people have the knowledge of their muscles and movements, it can guide them to stay injury free during dai- ly activities and exercise programs. Having this knowledge will help fight against decline and weak- ness that often comes with aging and/or disease. It will also assist in recovery and rehab from injuries, stroke, surgeries and re- building walking abilities. This anatomy book is a vital resource for all ages, including students, fitness fanatics, athletes, fitness professionals, physical therapists, chiropractors and medical profession- als. It’s a great source to bring to your team of healing professionals to help commutate and un- derstand what body work and exercises are needed to heal. Markley has been work- ing and studying in the fitness industry for more than two decades. She is the owner of Tracy’s Per- sonal Training, Pilates and Yoga Studio. She is a certified fitness specialist, personal trainer, biome- chanics specialist, pain- free movement specialist, BOSU Master Trainer and more. She is on the Fit- ness Education Advisory Board with the Medfit Foundation and has writ- ten a CEC Certification Course on stroke recovery and exercise. Her work and books have been na- tionally recognized.
