Universalists add
‘Attitude of gratitude’
Dr. Ruth Miller will lead
the Florence Unitarian
Universalist
Fellowship
(FUUF) service on Sunday,
Nov. 24, beginning at 10
a.m. Her message, in time
for Thanksgiving, will be
titled: “The Power of Grat-
itude.”
Miller is a longtime stu-
dent and practitioner of
this principle and will help
attendees understand the
power of gratitude, how
it works and what can be
done with that understand-
ing.
Psychologists have long
known that people who
have an “attitude of grati-
tude” live longer, healthier
lives. Now, neurologists
are finding that the brain
repairs itself and can be
transformed by the sim-
ple expression of gratitude
several times a day. And,
as those who followed the
Oprah Winfrey show as
long ago as the 1990s dis-
covered, when we focus on
what we’re thankful for, our
lives begin to change.
FUUF, located at 87738
Highway 101 at Heceta
Beach Road, is wheelchair
accessible. Each service
concludes with refresh-
ments and a dialogue circle
to explore the questions
that come up during each
worship service.
Siuslaw Watershed Council
potluck celebration Dec. 4
Each December, the Siu-
slaw Watershed Council
gathers with its watershed
neighbors to celebrate the
program’s
accomplish-
ments from the last year.
The community is invit-
ed to this year’s celebration
and potluck on Wednesday,
Dec. 4, at the Deadwood
Community Center, 91792
Deadwood Creek Rd. in
Deadwood.
Bring a dish to share and
consider bringing a label
with ingredients (gluten
free, vegan, etc.)
The potluck will begin at
5:30 p.m., with the evening
lasting until 8:30 p.m.
At 6:15 p.m., Executive
Director Eli Tome will
make a special presenta-
tion, then Siuslaw Water-
shed Council staff will talk
about some of the major
accomplishments over the
last year.
At the end of evening,
watershed members and
supporters will be invited
to an open mic to share
stories from the Siuslaw, as
well as art, poetry or music
inspired by the watershed
landscape.
