MILL—Paul Tyler Mill,
77, of Oakridge, former-
ly of Florence, suddenly
passed
away of
natural
causes
on Oct.
15, 2019.

was born

Monica, Calif., to Clay-
ton and Catherine (Fintel)
Mill. Paul grew up in Yon-
calla, Ore., and graduated
high school in 1959. After
high school, he joined the
U.S. Army and was a recon
scout paratrooper in the
101st Airborne Division.
In 1962, he got married
to Cynthia Domack in Mil-
waukee, Wisc. They had a
son and daughter together,
and later divorced.
During the last 27 years
of working, Paul was a
machinist/inspector in the
aerospace industry at Boe-
ing of Portland, where he
retired in 2003.
Paul enjoyed marksman-
ship, firearm handling,
the outdoors and cast-
iron cooking. He will be
most remembered for his
unique, intoxicating sense
of humor and his ability
to strike up a conversation
with anyone, about any-
thing.
Paul is survived by his
loving partner, Lynda Byer-
ley, of Oakridge; son, Brien
Mill of Florence; daughter,
Kristi (Steve) Quinn of
North Haven, Conn.; sister
Jean (Al) Barnhill of Sa-
lem; brother, Robert (Lin-
da) Mill of Coos Bay; and
three grandchildren.
A service will be held at a
future date in Yoncalla.

SAUTTER—Wallace R.
Sautter was born on July
26, 1929. He was given the
nickname “Wally” early in
life and that name stuck
with him.
He also had a “chuckle”
that he was easily recog-
nized by. He was born in a
rural setting in Connecti-
cut to a close-knit family
with several brothers and
two sisters.
His mother died when
he was young. All the fami-
ly were involved in helping
to raise and nurture him.
He has
very fond
memo-
ries
of

days, and
loved to
share the
stories

so special
to him.
In later years, he could
be found journaling the
events of his early years to
preserve the rich heritage
that he felt blessed to be a
part of.
Wally enlisted in the U.S.
Army to serve his country.
During those years he spent
time in England, Germany
and Japan. He always felt
that these were important
years. He learned much
about life and felt that his
character was enhanced
by his involvement in the
military and the disciplines
that were a part of that ex-
perience.
Wally had always had a
dream to “go west.” At an
early age he embraced the
idea of being a real “cow-
boy.” He decided to pursue
that dream. He moved to
southern California and
found employment deliv-
ering plumbing supplies
and spent his working
years in that profession.
Many hours were spent
exploring the desert and
the area around Bishop for
camping and fishing with
his family and his bud-
dies — that was as close to
“cowboy” as he got!
In 1958 he married Mar-
tha Grundy — “Marti.”
They had celebrated 53
years of marriage when she
passed away in 2012. They
had two children.
Martha passed away in
2010.
Wally’s leisure hours
were spent reading and
doing crossword puzzles.
He had a true love and
appreciation of music. He
enjoyed exploring and al-
ways had an ongoing list of
things that he wanted to do
or places he wanted to see.
Wally is survived by his
son, Mark, and two grand-
sons. He is also survived
by many family members
and life-long friends. Mar-
ti and Wally were a part of
the Florence Community
Choir and also the Presby-
terian Church.
Wally passed away on
Nov. 6, 2019. His philos-
ophy in life can best be
summed up in the words
to a song on a cassette that
was set aside, ready to be
listened to by those who
will truly miss him. “The
Last Farewell,” sung by
Roger Whittaker, aptly ex-
presses Wally’s feelings of
his love of life: “For you are
beautiful and I have loved
you dearly, more dearly
than the spoken word can
tell.”

anne (Cherie) Leona Ed-
wards, 80, passed away
peacefully Thursday, Oct.
24, 2019, in Eugene, Ore.
Cherie was born Aug.
20, 1939, in Oakland, Ca-
lif., to Andrew and Mary
Anne Anderson.
She was married to Da-
vid Ed-
wards
in 1961
until he
passed in
2001.

married life in South Da-
kota, where both of their
children were born.
She moved to Florence,
Ore., four years ago and in-
stantly fell in love with its
beauty and community.
Cherie was involved
in various activities in
Florence, including card
groups, the Florence Frien-
ship Club and the Cham-

ber Ambassadors.
She was also a beloved
wife, mother and grand-
mother.
She is survived by her
two children: Shelly Me-
deiros and Garret Edwards;
and five grandchildren.
No formal services will
be held. A celebration of
Cherie’s life will be held at
a future date.
