Lane County is optimistic HHS will release the funding soon. The LI- HEAP program helps in- come-qualified households with their home energy ex- penses in the winter. LIHEAP is a winter-time program that provides qualifying households with a one-time payment toward their energy bill. It may be applied to electricity, nat- ural gas, home heating oil, propane, wood pellets and wood. On Friday, Nov. 1, at 9 a.m., Lane County LIHEAP agencies will begin placing households on LIHEAP appointment waiting lists. Households may place themselves on an agency’s waiting list by going to www.lanecounty.org/ener- gyassistance. The online waiting list is the fast and easy way to get on a waiting list. The online list benefits households that call or walk into an agency to get on a list, because they are competing with fewer people on the telephone or in-line at an agency. If a household doesn’t get on a LIHEAP waiting list in November, the household should try again the first working day of each month through June. LIHEAP agencies re-open their LI- HEAP waiting lists several times during the winter season. To qualify for LIHEAP, a household’s current gross monthly income must be at or below 60 percent of Oregon’s median income. A household of one person can have a gross monthly income as high as $2,165. A household of four can have a gross monthly income of $4,163. The amount of assistance a household receives de- pends on a number of fac- tors. The program pays the assistance directly into a household’s utility account as a one-time payment that ranges from $250 to $550. Interested households may call one of the agencies list- ed below to be placed on a waiting list. 7810 • Florence Senior Connec- tions — 541-902-9430, ext. 7835 • Junction City Senior Connections — 541-998- 8445 • Oakridge Senior Connec- tions — 541-782-4726 • Veneta Senior Connec- tions — 541-935-2262 Households that don’t have a senior citizen, con- tact: • Catholic Community Services in Eugene — 541- Senior citizens, ages 60 345-3642 and older, contact one of • Catholic Community the following senior cen- Services in Springfield — ters: 541-747-8349 • Campbell Community • Community Sharing in Center in Eugene — 541- Cottage Grove — 541-942- 682-5354 6492 • Willamalane Adult Activi- • Siuslaw Outreach Services ty Center in Springfield — in Florence — 541-997- 541-736-4406 2816 • Cottage Grove Senior • Lane County Energy Connections — 541-682- Oakridge — 541-682-3314 Florence Unitarians hear KXCR hosts marathon about hope Sunday broadcast for Halloween On Sunday, Oct. 27, from 10 to 11 a.m. at the Flor- ence Unitarian Universalist Fellowship, the Rev. Sarah Skochko will share a mes- sage titled, simply, “Hope.” Skochko believes, “Hope is the feeling, longing or be- lief that something positive will happen; it’s an essential human emotion, and an im- portant part of a religious life. But there are also such things as false hopes and misplaced hopes. Is hope always a good thing? This week, we will consider how to maintain and to draw upon hope when we need it the most, as a source of religious strength.” The fellowship is located at 87738 Highway 101 at Heceta Beach Road and is wheelchair accessible. Each service concludes with re- freshments and a dialogue circle to explore the ques- tions that come up during each worship service. For more info, visit www. florenceuuf.org. On Wednesday, Oct. 30, KXCR 90.7 FM will be broadcasting live from noon until 10 p.m. This is an an- nual event held at KXCR to celebrate Halloween. This year, KXCR will be launching its Listener Circle with an opportunity to join the circle and win a variety of prizes that have been do- nated. There will be have works of art, dinners at Off Bay Street Bistro and a vari- ety of other prizes. During the event, KXCR volunteers will be giving radio station tours and will give people the opportunity to be a guest on the air. Peo- ple will also learn how they can host their own radio show. KXCR has only one part- time paid staff; all others, including on-air DJs, are volunteers. KXCR Community Radio debuted in April 2014 and is a combination of news, information and music pro- grams. All of its programs, including 12 programs gen- erated by local DJs, stream live at kxcr.net.
