CLAVEL—On Tuesday
Oct. 8, 2019, Edmund (Ed)
Clavel, 91, loving husband
of Diane, passed away.
Ed was born in New York
city on April 28, 1928, to
Ramon and Mary Clavel,
who immigrated from
Spain and Puerto Rico.
He served in the merchant
marines and two branches
of the military, the Ma-
rines and
the
Air
Force. He
worked
for
Pan
Am and
United
airlines as
a mechan-

for Lockheed Aerospace,
from which he retired.
Ed was passionate about
life. He loved flying his
Aercoupe over the skies of
Florence, riding his mo-
torcycle with his buddies
to buy a hamburger or just
walking briskly though his
neighborhood. He was not
afraid to try anything new
whether it be a new exotic
food or a crazy sport like
hang gliding. He was an
inspiration to friends and
family.
Ed is survived by his
wife of 68 years, Diane
Clavel; his daughter and
son-in-law, Mary and Dan
Schlenger; and his son and
daughter-in-law, Eddie and
Diana Clavel.
He is also survived by his
six grandchildren and 12
great-grandchildren.
He leaves a legacy of a
loving and caring family
who will miss him greatly.
A memorial service will
be held at the Elks Lodge
in Florence, Ore., on Satur-
day, Oct. 19, at 2 p.m.

OBITUARIES
CHAMBERLEN—Fred-
erick Lewis Chamberlen,
81, formerly of Florence,
passed away Sept. 19, 2019,
in Visalia, Calif., surround-
ed by loved ones.
Fred was born in Lind-
say, Calif., on Nov. 21, 1937.
He attended Porterville
and Ducor schools, gradu-
ating from PUHS in 1955.
After attending El Camino
College, he joined the U.S.
Navy. He
went on
to
work
for Stan-
dard Oil
in Taft and
S out h e r n
California.
Frederick
He then
Chamberlen moved to
Santa Rosa
and Sono-
ma, working for Barkley
Pumps.
After retiring, he worked
for his wife’s family busi-
ness in Sonoma. They
moved to Florence, Ore.,
and lived in what he called
his “paradise” home on a
lake. When his beloved
wife Gail (Farrell) died, he
moved back to Visalia to
be near family. He loved
his new neighborhood and
they returned the love. He
loved all the kids and their
parents equally.
Fred and Gail loved
traveling. He was a lover
of golf, nature, fishing and
hunting. He always had
an exquisitely organized
workshop. Fred was also
a true Seahawks fan. He
loved helping others.
Fred is preceded in
death by his parents, Lewis
and Jean Chamberlen; his
mother Mildred; and his
sister Norma Kaiser.
Fred is survived by
his son Richard and his
wife, Rhonda, and their
children: Dylan and Ca-
mille; his daughter Debbie
and her husband, Chris;
his brother Gary Kaiser
and his wife, Judi; a sis-

After traveling across
the country to Califor-
nia as a representative for
Proctor and Gamble, he
met, wooed and married
Virginia Toon, the love of
his life, on Dec. 12, 1952,
in Tracy, Calif.
Larry later received an
Associate in Science de-
gree from the University of
the State of New York, and
spent 40 years devoted to
public service working for
the State of California, pri-
marily in Sacramento.
His family remembers
him for his lifelong curios-
ity, his love of learning, his
rapier wit and his passion
for the theater, including
his talents as a playwright,
director, actor, singer and
musician.
A brief graveside service
is scheduled for Wedesday,
Oct. 16, at 2 p.m., at Pacific
Sunset Cemetery on High-
way 126 in Florence, Ore.
Pastor Rachel Simonson
of the New Life Lutheran
Church will officiate.
