Open Tuesday – Friday 11 am – 4 pm 3932 Spruce St. Florence On Sunday, Florence Po- lice had been advised by the Lincoln County Sheriff ’s office of an attempt to lo- cate a green Ford Expedi- tion that had been involved in an Assault and Theft case in their area, and it was re- ported that the driver was possibly intoxicated. Flor- ence Police Dispatch re- ceived a driving complaint of a vehicle matching the suspect vehicle driving at a high rate of speed and mak- ing bad passes traveling southbound on Highway 101 at milepost 179. At approximately 7:30 p.m. Florence Police locat- ed the vehicle in the park- ing lot of Fred Meyer. As an officer approached the suspect, he immediately jumped into the vehicle and refused commands to exit and started to back out of the parking spot. The officer continued to give commands to stop but the suspect continued backing WEDNESDAY THURSDAY out. The suspect looked visibly intoxicated and the officer broke out the driv- er’s side door window in an attempt to stop the suspect. The suspect vehicle acceler- ated backwards, striking a parked vehicle. The suspect then accel- erated forward towards the officer, who was able to move to avoid being struck. The suspect vehicle ex- ited the Fred Meyer park- ing lot and went south on Highway 101, where anoth- er Florence officer immedi- ately attempted to stop the vehicle. The suspect failed to stop and continued south on Highway 101 at a high rate of speed and driv- ing recklessly. Officers continued the pursuit of the suspect as it turned east on to Highway 126. The suspect vehicle began to emit smoke/steam from the engine compart- ment area and the speeds slowed to approximately 30 mph while still refusing to stop for the officers. The pursuit continued east on Highway 126 as parts fell from the vehicle and heavy smoke/steam emitted from the engine compartment area. The suspect vehicle came to a stop on Highway 126 at ap- proximately milepost 5.5. Officers gave commands to the suspect and were able to place him in custody with- out further incident. The suspect was identi- fied as Kevin Paul Hubbard, 46, of Vancouver, Wash. Hubbard was charged with Elude, Reckless Endanger- ing, Reckless Driving and Driving Under the Influ- ence of Intoxicants. Hubbard was lodged in the Florence City Jail and later transported to Lane County Adult Corrections. The Lincoln County Sher- iff ’s Office investigation is continuing and additional charges are possible.
