The Central People’s Lincoln
Utility District is in the business of
supplying power to its customers.
Central Lincoln is a nonprofit busi-
ness, meaning it has been granted
a tax-exempt status from the IRS
because it furthers a social cause or
provides a public benefit — which
in this case means providing elec-
tricity to the public.
The power distributed by Central
Lincoln is generated by the con-
stant flow of the Columbia River,

The Army Corps of Engineers
built the dam in the 1930s and, at
the time, the project was the largest

iuslaw Outreach Services (SOS) led a short, somber walk down Bay Street on Sun-
day, followed by a brief vigil on the Port of Siuslaw Boardwalk in recognition of
the victims of domestic abuse. SOS Executive Director Bob Teter spoke to the small
crowd in attendance on the need for awareness of this issue as it continues to impact
communities of all sizes and economic means. The walk was led down Bay Street by
the Florence Police Department and cheerleaders from Siuslaw High School. A small
group of victims, relatives and those who work with and for the victims of domestic
violence walked silently in support. SOS helps with not only domestic abuse situa-
tions, but also provides assistance to those who need housing, food or counseling.

adoption of WLFEA

The Western Lane Fire and EMS Authority
(WLFEA) officially began on Friday.
The non-taxing agency, which is run in con-
junction between Siuslaw Valley Fire and Rescue
(SVFR) and Western Lane Ambulance District
(WLAD), is an outgrowth of the agencies’ inter-
governmental agreement (IGA).
“I look at this as a dating process,” WLFEA
Chief Michael Schick told SVFR and WLAD staff
in a public luncheon on Thursday. “With the IGA,
they were dating. With WLFEA, the agencies are
