No surrender for ‘Florence White Flags’ at Hood to Coast
The 12-member team repre-
senting Florence in Saturday’s
28th annual Hood to Coast Re-
lay paced itself for a repeat of
last year’s first-place, defending
its title with a dominant per-
formance in the 199-male race
from Mt. Hood to Seaside.
Competing in the Mixed
Masters Division, this year’s
team was made up of runners
Amy Flora, Justin Loftus, Cam-
bria Gilsdorf, Robyn McGillis,
Thor Esbensen, Chris Johnson,
Monika Zweifel, Mark Bloudek,
Ben Sauvage, Jeff Spang, Jen
Brendon and Rachelle Camp-
bell.
The team competed in a field
of more than 1,500 teams —
and 18,000 runners — and fin-
ished in 23 hours, 33 minutes,
30.7 seconds.
The second team across the
finish was Soul Asylum: Vans
on the Run, of Elmhurst, Ill.,
with a time of 26:30:15.2.
This year’s roster for Flor-
ence included six returners
from 2018 — Flora, Gilsdorf,
McGillis, Johnson, Campbell,
Bloudek — along with new

The Florence Softball Association officially wrapped the 2019 summer season on
Saturday during a day-long tourney held at Miller Park. Lofy Construction got its
first win when it knocked out the Beachcomber team in a dramatic 1-run win in extra
innings during semifinals. Then, in the finals, ACC went on to defeat Lofy and go 5-0
on the day to claim the championship title.

ers — Due to low forecasted
returns this year, wild Chinook
fishing will be restricted in
most coastal rivers. Most of
these temporary regulations
will be in effect from Aug.
1-Dec. 31, though a few don’t
start until Sept. 16 or Oct. 1.

ended

June.
Warmwater fisheries are
improving in several lakes
around the Florence area
including Siltcoos,
Tahkenitch, Mercer and
Munsel lakes.

Warmwater species
Warmwater fishing has been
good on Siltcoos and
Tahkenitch lakes as well as
many other lakes in the
Florence area. Water tempera-
tures are warm and fish can be
found throughout the lake in a
variety of habitats. Warmwater
fishing will continue to be
good through the summer and
into the fall.
Siltcoos also gets stocked
rainbow trout, check the
stocking schedule for numbers
and dates of stockings.

week’s Boeing Classic on the
PGA’s Championship Tour,
Ocean Dunes golf pro Bob
Rannow finsihed the three-day
classic by shooting an 80 in his
final-round on Sunday.
Rannow, 50, wrapped up
his first appearance in the
Tournament of Champions at
24-over-par and in last place

Brandt Jobe carded a 63 in
the final round, finishing with
an 18-under-par 198 to nab a
$315,000 first-prize purse.
Finishing second was Tom
Pernice Jr., who shot a 15-un-
der-par, and third place went to
Jerry Kelly and Fred Couples in
a tie at 12-under-par each.
Rannow, who earned $1,302,
shot 82-78-80—240 for a three-
day total score, placing 75th and
among all finishers in a field of
78 — three of which did not fin-
ish; Fred Funk left in the second
round, Dudley Hart left in the
third round, and John Daly opt-
ed out after the first round of
tournament play.
