Labor Day Weekend
book sale at library
The Friends of the Siu-
slaw Public Library will
hold its annual Labor Day
weekend book sale Satur-
day, Aug. 31, from 10 a.m.
to 4 p.m., and Sunday, Sept.
1, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.,
in the Bromley Room at
the library, 1460 Ninth St.
Friends of the Library
members can come to a
special preview sale Sat-
urday morning, Aug. 31,
from 9 to 10 a.m. Member-
ships are available at the
door.
“If you want to stock up
on some great fall reading
at great prices, this is your
chance,” said Friends of the
Library president Linda
Weight, who added that
there will also be audio-
books, DVDs and tote bags
with custom art by a local
artist available.
The Friends of the Siu-
slaw Public Library is a
nonprofit
organization,
with proceeds from book
sales benefitting the library
district in many ways,
including
equipment,
support of the summer
reading program and the
Library Endowment Fund.

House concert this Saturday to benefit OCHS
Pianist/composer Dan
Chadburn and singer/
songwriter Tom Nichols
will be making their sixth
concert appearance in
Kathy Parsons’ MainlyPia-
no.com House Concert Se-
ries on Saturday, Aug. 24,
beginning at 7 p.m.
Joining them will be
Chadburn’s sister, Jenny
Chadburn, also a gifted
solo pianist and vocalist.
This concert will be for
the benefit of The Oregon
Coast Humane Society
(OCHS) in Florence and all
donations will go directly
to the nonprofit organiza-
tion.
Cash, checks and pet
supplies will be gratefully
accepted.
Dan Chadburn’s concerts
are relaxed and informal
and include a piano impro-
visation in each half. He has
released seven instrumen-

Nichols released his first
solo album “Trust” in 2011
and has produced the al-
bums of many artists, in-
cluding Chadburn, in the
Washington, DC area.
In addition to his work in
music, Nichols has an ac-
tive career in conservation
and social justice issues. He
is currently the vice presi-
dent of Finance and Oper-
ations for the Arcus Foun-
dation in New York City.
From the late 1980s
through early 2000s, Jen-
ny Chadburn performed
as Jenny Butler, The Jenny
Butler Trio, and in an orig-
inal band called NuMonet.
After a long hiatus to
focus on education and ca-
reer, she joins Dan Chad-
burn and Tom Nichols to
share her gift as a solo pia-
nist and vocalist.

the fall season of StoryTime
